The most common container in Ireland, somehow

  1. As a nation, we love coleslaw, so restaurants and delis here can go through dozens of these a year. Usually 10L guys, not 5. They’re super useful in professional kitchens for storing stocks, sauces, prepped veg, etc. I used to take the excess of them home for growing plants in, feeding the dogs, filling with soapy water to wash things around the house, I once even cooked a stew and took it (2 hours) home on a bus in one of these to have dinner made for a get-together. Great insulation in them. Anyone who knows anyone in catering gets wind of it and starts building the collection.

Worked in a nursing home years back where they’d just get fucked in the bin when emptied, so I’d just wash and rescue them. Hospitals/homes aren’t allowed to store food in them for hygiene reasons, so fuck knows how many of these are wasted per year. 1000s, I reckon.

  2. So, I understand how they originate, but I’m still not sure how they get distributed. They’re everywhere! How exactly do they make their way from catering etc to Seanie’s calfshed?!?
