I’m wondering if it might be cheaper to rig up a diesel generator and power the house off that. Only got a gas bill and a jerry can to pay that way.
Those wee gas cylinders are extortionate for the amount of gas you get in them. If you must go off-grid, at least get a big calor gas cylinder.
In all fairness, I’m sure it sets the scene really nicely in the place.
It must make it feel really cosy and delightful, especially in the evenings when the sun has just set, and you can look out of the window to see the silhouette of the city illuminated from behind/above by the the dark blues and violets of the evening sky, with the warm orange glow of the candles in your cosy living room… Beautiful 🙂
I bought 20 batteries for £10, I use 6 every 3 weeks to light up fairy lights. I cook 2-3 times week, and made other cut backs. I think I overdid it a bit because I’ve managed to have savings and pay off all my debts. This will of course most likely go into the same essentials when food and fuel rises go up from October so there’s that.

First of most of us, I think.
