Where we going to go,everywhere is just as screwed
Jaysus I dunno, I know a few woke fookers I wouldnt mind exporting
The ~~indo~~ examiner are full of some scaremongering shite recently.
No. The recession hasn’t begun yet. You’ll know when it has.
The world is in this situation. Unless they’re planning on going to the moon, escape isn’t much of an option.
> “I think the recession has already begun”.
It hasn’t. When it happens, and when it takes effect, you’ll know.
For one thing, people won’t be talking about considering emigrating. It happens.
The recession hasn’t begun , but after not being able to travel for a few years and record high Rents and property prices , young people are predictably looking abroad for greener pastures , nothing wrong with that.
Ah yes. One of those “near full employment” recesions I keep hearing about.
Mad idea, but nothing will change here if every generations first thought when things get tough is fuck this I’m off. Too addicted to having the craic than stay and build a functioning society that is open to all
Well. No shit.
Ireland will be a better place to be if you can believe that. The recession is already upon us, it’s what’s to come should worry you and this will be a global depression like we’ve never seen before. The greedy wealthy elite cunts fucked everything up again and you can bet your hole they have been siphoning money out to ride this imminent economic disaster for the next 5+ years. If you have money and you want to protect it, think of the things that can’t be taken from you. Not financial advise, precious metal, Bitcoin(specifically) and if your informed…no joke GME shares. These are all hedges for what’s to come. Make your own decisions, not to scare monger but protect yourself and your family for the difficult time’s ahead.
The majority of the people I know that emigrated over the past 15 years did it for the lifestyle/craic more than financial reasons. Which is fair enough but let’s not act as if things are much different in the places they went. I think a change of scenery and a new city can make high rent and average salaries feel like better value.
I’m sure as years before young people want to travel & see the world, it just so happens they’ll probably benefit more from heading away soon due to the rental market here. I have no idea what that is like in any other country but i would imagine your money would get you a nicer place to stay than here. I’m sure they dont have “Liams” offering a galvanized shed for €1100 with no kitchen.
If you’ve graduated with a degree and you’re looking for an option outside Ireland, can I suggest teaching English in Asia. In Thailand, you could be living by the beach in a nice apartment or three bedroom detached house for less than 25% of your basic salary, and cost of living is really cheap, if you want it to be. A dinner at the local stall for example is around 1euro. With extra classes you can add 25-50% on top of the basic salary depending on how motivated you are to get extra cash, so a few extra classes a month can cover your rent and bills. It doesn’t have to be a permanent move but as an option to get out and live a less stressed out rat race type life it’s one to consider. I worked in Korea and Thailand. Korea is great fun too, with hands down the best food I’ve ever eaten and a serious drinking culture. Very professional about education there, but Thai people are more fun and it’s a tropical country. But both were great places to live. Salaries are lower than in Ireland by a good bit but the cost of living is lower and I haven’t really worried about a bill since I left Ireland in 2013 and from 2015-2021 I supported a family on my salary, with my partner staying at home to mind the kid/s. God knows what I’d need to earn in Dublin to be able to say the same thing there. No shame in leaving if you’re sick of the place. The 2008 recession really fucked me up as a self employed person and after struggling for a few years I’d had enough. Best decision I ever made.
Ok in the Netherlands energy bills will be so high we cannot pay them. And rents of the houses keep on being high. Just a small update in case u consider moving here.
Been home for three months after living abroad for five years. Living with my parents as I can’t get a rental and can’t believe how expensive everything is. My tickets are booked and I’m away again in January probably for good.
The grass is always greener but if you’re in your early twenties, don’t be worrying about your “career”, emigrate and see what the story is, you can always come back whenever you want
>’I think the recession has already begun’
Oh my sweet summer child, you are in for a world of hardship…
of course, you’ll own nada, but at least now you will be ” happy “
After my apprenticeship I definitely consider moving abroad, fuck this shite!
Moving abroad is the best thing I’ve ever done – I still dream of returning to Ireland when things get better but for now, my money goes further in London than it does in Dublin.
Sure people have been leaving in droves for years. half of Ireland is in Australia
>Ireland’s Gen Zs and millennials consider emigration
Guess what I did last week
Left what, 5 years ago now I’d say. First job after the masters in Italy was some of the best living I’ve done so far! Went from no job prospects and impossible to find somewhere to rent to making good money and only paying €800 for a nice apartment to myself. I think a lot would have to change before I’d consider going back honestly.
Millenials already emigrated in droves from 2008 and right up to covid. Gen Z isn’t experiencing anything earth shattering. It happens when the country is as bleak as it is and for as long as it is from a government as complacent as it is. Higher salaries, better accommodation, a better work life balance or just a change of scenery have people leaving as is.
Consider????
There’s been mass emigration from these groups for over a decade.

I’m 23 and I’ve met four people this week that are emigrating in the next 3 months
Can’t say I blame them. There is just less and less reason to stay. Ireland has very little to offer them. They have been let down badly.
I’m in final year of college now and a lot of people I know are considering leaving the country as soon as they can.
It’s a choice between emigrating/watching your kids emigrate or actually getting off our holes and doing something about our shitshow of a government. They folded pretty quick with the water protests and not a single TD got a kick in the hole. Just imagine how fast they’d fix things if one of them got a clout with a rolled up ESB bill.
We will continue being screwed by the brass neck fuckers until we get out and actually do something about it. Its either that, or pack your bags and fuck off/watch your kids fuck off or freeze to death this winter.
So which is it going to be?
What generation hasn’t emigrated?
Moved to Spain in January and am not regretting it, especially seeing the likes of Liam’s shed for rent.
Could someone explain this to me please? What I mean is that I actually live in Romania, and only follow this sub as I like Ireland, but talking money-wise Ireland is one of the countries with good salaries in Europe. Not the best, but it’s in the top.
So the price of homes is high. And it’s growing… but that’s a thing that’s happening all over Europe. Sure, if young people leave for a country with more affordable housing, say my country, Romania, they will get a cheaper house(prices here have grown too, but houses are cheaper than in Ireland)… but they will also get a much lower salary, worse services provided by the state and be in a country where they need to learn the local language for a generally worse living experience…
So why settle for a worse country just because it has cheaper housing? Would it not be better to unite and protest or try and find solutions for cheaper housing in Ireland? I could understand them leaving for a country that provides equal opportunities or even better but cheaper housing, but there’s very few countries in that list.
Ireland’s future literally forced to leave in order to have some semblance of a life. How did we get to this?
