£7000 or £70’000, what’s the point when millions can’t afford it anyway?
The mail will run an article tomorrow claiming it will be 7200, then the times will claim 7500. They always need a bigger number to get clicks. It is as bad as the Boston Bombings death toll, which from memory got to 115 before being revised down to low single digits.
This is a serious issue being exaggerated by the media to instill fear, yet again.
Why is the U.K. not energy secure ?? Why have governments not taken our energy security seriously this can be said for other things .
I mean, this is failed state territory if it gets that high. The economy will collapse in a way that’s never been seen before. Massive government intervention needed, and we’re talking possibly hundreds of billions of pounds. We’re heading for an economic tsunami.
Don’t pay UK. Withhold payment for a few months. If 200,000 households done this.. They, the energy suppliers will be cut off by a cool 1 billion pounds.
This government are only interested in money. Cut a billion a month from blue chip companies.. You’ll get a reaction.
Is this just a joke now? It was 2500.. then 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, 7k.. are they just plucking numbers and seeing what people say?
It’s getting to the point where it will be cheaper for me to live in a 4 star all inclusive in Turkey.
Who cares can’t pay todays rise so whatever it goes up to next year makes no difference to us
Last year our gas/electric bill for 2 people in a cottage with gas central heating & hot water was £900
Im just going to do this 🤣
Our DD has already doubled & that’s before winter gets here, we won’t & can’t pay anymore like I seid to ovo we do have other bills to pay 🤬
It’s going to get to the point where it isn’t even our problem at this rate, if I owe the bank £1000 it’s my problem, if I owe the bank £1,000,000 it’s their problem.
This is going to be totally unaffordable for a good 2/3 of the country.
I mean I’m not putting the oven on for half and hour if it’s going to cost £5!!! I’m not heating my home if it’s going to cost £20 a day!!!
Looks like we’re all camping in our homes, in the dark, freezing cold this winter.
Why don’t the media ask the real questions? Yes the Russian supply cuts have increased demand in the global market. But it’s all smoke and daggers. It’s unacceptable that energy company’s are making 500%+ profit. It’s clear that this is a fleecing before the switch over to cleaner fuels. Governments allowing this are a fucking disgrace.
British society is genuinely doomed if this comes to pass.
Not that I’m a huge fan of capitalism, but considering we’re (largely) under that umbrella, should such prices mean that energy companies, both new and old, will invest massively in energy production and prices eventually will get lower?
When the UK becomes a Banana Republic, at least the republic bit will be an improvement.
I’m sorry but these are just numbers now.
The vast majority just cannot afford these figures.
The government are going to have to do something or this isn’t going to just bring them down, it’s going to bring down the entire economy.
Lol, i swear these media outlets are just pulling figures out their ass now. Every day there is a new “breaking news” story about energy prices, and every day the amount changes.
or sit in wetherspoons in the warm with a unlimited refillable coffee for £1.29
So many businesses are going to shut that this recession is going to last years.
This is what I open Reddit everyday for. I am guaranteed a “new energy spike prediction” and a laugh.
Well, the government are going to be very busy having to re-home all those people made homeless by not being able to pay their rents. Better get building…
Careful, you posted a sad article, r/okmatewanker gonna call you depressing twats
It’s things like this that make me relieved that I live in a bedsit – even though I’m desperate to move into my own place.
Ludicrous.
A very low user with just a few LED light bulbs will now be paying £200 in standing charge before they have even used a single kwh.
Is it me or does this goes up by a grand per day? I swear it was 6k yesterday
Time to find an electrician to do some creative work to my electric meter.
Fuck this shit.
At this point, the energy cap is utterly pointless.
£3k? £5k? £10k? It really makes no difference now.
If people can’t afford bills when they are going to hit a cap of £3500 – increasing that £3500 to £7000 isn’t going to do anything other than add comedy value.
I’m kinda getting to the point where the higher these daily predictions get the better – because the higher the number gets, the more the government are going to have to take action.
At £7000 a year – a lot of folk would be paying for for their energy bills than they are for their mortgage. That’s how ridiculous it’s getting now.
Many of us are lucky if rent doesn’t cost 50% of the payday, now we’ll be lucky if energy doesn’t take the other half
God I’m so bored of these headlines. Every day there’s a new figure. We get it, we’re getting absolutely shafted.
Every fucking week it keeps going up, jesus christ we know, by April next year it will be 20k or some dumb shit.
It’s so boring at this point seeing this figure increase 500quid every week.
How the fuck are people on benefits going to pay that?
What’s that, 35 percent of a national minimum wage annual salary? And that’s before tax/ni/pension.
It’s just not sustainable is it?
We’re supposed to be a first world country yet a significant portion of our country is going to struggle to have fucking electricity or heat their homes.
The UK public is going to do nothing about this. If we take for example France, the entire country went on strike over less important issues than this. If your government can keep you as a docile fool – it will.
Back in the 2000s the government would leak tax rises or service cuts. However they would always leak the values as higher than they were going to be. A 15% tax hike would be 5%, a 20% cut would only be 10%.
There would be much gnashing of teeth at the leaked high numbers, then when the official numbers were released everyone would breathe a sigh of relief and be grateful for tax hikes and service cuts as they were not so bad..
Don’t be hoodwinked into accepting the price hikes just because they’re not as high as the ridiculous ones the predict they could be.
I suspect that they are pulling some gigantic number out as scaremongering. So ‘experts’ say that by this time next year we’ll be paying our entire annual salary in energy bills. Everyone goes ‘WHAT! NO, this cannot happen!’ The government says ‘no, you’re right, it can’t’ Hand-wavery ensues. Actual cost of energy turns out to be half of what was predicted, government says ‘see, we care about you poor plebs out there’ (without having done a thing), everyone is relieved that energy is NOT going to take their entire salary and goes quiet.
Rinse and repeat.
10s of millions of households simply do not have the money to pay this.
Feel like they are doing this daily price rise on purpose so when it stays at £3549 or somewhere below the £7000 mark, we are supposed to be grateful and praise the government for their too late, inadequate intervention. Reminds me of American health insurance”Here is what it would have cost you but because you had insurance it’s only this much.” Either scenario leaves you paying too much or bankrupting you. 🙄

I’d literally be paying the same as my rent.

What are they going to do when they don’t pay?
