  1. Bó Riabhach are the rarest Irish breed of cattle. I’m pretty sure their numbers are under 100 purebred individuals, the IRBS says there’s around 60-70 of them kept by 10 breeders, but I’m not sure when the page was last updated. Their name translates to “brindle cow”

    They’re born with a light red coat – overtime, they should darken and gain brindle markings. Sometimes they have white patches.

    Originally they were bred for dairy, they are known to be great milkers but no milk records showing exact production figures exist for the breed afaik. Usually they’d be used as a suckler cow nowadays though. The breed is from the west of Ireland.
