Rail and postal strikes called off after Queen’s death

  1. I hope they ultimately get what they are asking for and soon.

Fair play to them for this. This will help also keep hearts and minds on their side in what ultimately is a political contest.

  2. I guarantee that if Truss tries to take credit for the strikes being cancelled, just once, the unions will go bananas.

  3. Well done the Unions concerned- respectful and the right thing to do.

There will be a time to strike and make a pay deal later, but the next few days are not the time. The public are going to appreciate this display of respect.

  4. So… Let me get this straight… A strike aiming to get better conditions and pay for working class people are being called off because a monarch has died?

    This. Damn. Country.

  5. I’m still not going to pay for my train tickets as part of my strike. We’re all aware that 30% of train fares go to wages so they know the impact.

  6. Very very very clever – whether it not it was intentional this will bring a lot of people round and gain a lot of sympathy and admiration.

  7. That’s disappointing.

On a global scale, maintaining the strikes would have sorely humiliated our businessmen, who make no mistake about it, WILL use the death of the old girl as a means to rinse every possible penny out of commuters.

I’d have stuck with the strikes.

  8. I guess public sentiment is important but to me this just proves everything wrong and is a perfect example of the inequality making these strikes necessary.
