Conservative party member: ‘I tore up my membership card’

  1. Not always for the reasons you’d imagine. Based on what I read online many tory voters are absolutely enraged that Boris has become gradually more Liberal and more importantly that Brexit hasn’t reduced the amount of illegal immigrants entering the UK, instead seeing record numbers arriving.

So yes for some of them they realise they were sold a lie re Brexit but ultimately the issue still remains. How do they solve the illegal immigration crisis?

  2. >”I can’t believe what he says anymore,” she says. “I cannot support the party while Boris is leader.”

Really? **Now** you can’t believe what he says? Furthermore, what makes you think the next shower of shite would be any better, or even any different?

Its infuriating how people get so close to realising what a farce our politics are, yet they never seem to fully accept it, so nothing ever changes.

  3. I can forgive the corruption, the racism, the transphobia, the authoritarianism, killing disabled people, killing the poor, the Brexit lies, and the terrible death toll from their pandemic response.

    But I can’t forgive them having a party while saying I can’t.

  4. There are so, so many awful things this Tory government are doing that are far worse than a secret party 12 months ago but aren’t getting anywhere near the attention.

But if this is what it is that changes the public mood, I’m not going to complain.

  5. They’re fine with the abuse and corruption. They’re fine with the unnecessary deaths of British people. They’re fine with dismantling everything British to sell for a quick profit for Tory MPs and their donors. But some Tories having a party when the public weren’t allowed? Too far.

  6. I’m glad some people are waking up, but it’s just weird to me what the red line is for some people.

    This? A Christmas party? Really?!

  7. …did they also cancel their party membership? It’s not like the card itself does anything, glib performative “I tore up my card” nonsense is less than meaningless.

  8. So the decade of increasing the homeless exponentially was totally okay?

Okay you know what, I’m being too pessimistic. If she’s turning away from them, that’s still a good thing.

  9. “I mean obviously I knew what I was voting for, so obviously I knew he’d been fired from every journalism job he’d ever had for lying in print, and was on tape agreeing to find the address of another journalist for a friend that wanted to have them beaten up. That was all fine – but this…”

  10. “Can’t support the conservatives while Boris is leader”

Every single Tory MP has been aware , involved and perfectly comfortable with continuous lying and duplicity, not one of them has been honest, all are there for self gain, not one has the British people’s interests at heart.

They have never cared, and never will, people who enable them are just as responsible as they are .

  11. “When they were starving kids and systematically destroying the lives of disabled people I was all on board. This party business has pissed me right off though”

  12. The BBC were interviewing people in Owen Paterson’s constituency as they are voting in a by-election next week. You had lifelong Tory voters saying they could no longer support them because of the Christmas party, so Paterson’s second job was clearly no issue in their mind. It just shows how much people are willing to forgive in the scheme of things and what really gets people’s goat. Corruption is fine, voting for unethical policies is fine, lying about a Christmas party is not though.
