The Irish Times: Liz Truss will will make Johnson seem a political genius, May a mistress of empathy, Cameron a beacon of sincerity

  1. So Brexit was initially made possible by someone who campaigned against it, who immediately resigned when it became a reality on the horizon, the reigns were then taken by someone else who campaigned against Brexit, who then – bizzarely, they already had a clear mandate – called a snap election and ran the world’s most absurd election campaign in an effort to sabotage their own chances of being re-elected and hoping the Labour Party would get elected and subsequently put a halt to Brexit, only to discover that the UK electorate were so hungry for Brexit that even when campaigning against every demographic’s key concerns, they still found themselves in government – but sharing a bed with the DUP. Then after crashing out in a ditch, the reigns were handed over once more, but this time finally to someone who actually campaigned in favour of Brexit, but this too was an unmitigated disaster – not helped by COVID and significant UK media pressure against a pro-Brexit government, not to mention the wilful mishandling of Brexit – by anti-Brexiteers – that preceded him. This individual too was made to crash out in a ditch.

And now we’ve got another individual who campaigned against brexit, a Maggie Thatcher-esque whackjob at that.

Perhaps it’s our close proximity, and relationship, with the UK that keeps me so well versed on their politics … But I don’t recall ever seeing some major political issue like this, anywhere, struggle so badly to get over the line.

I guess this is what it looks like when a right wing ruling class find themselves between the proverbial rock & hard place when their right wing & right leaning electorate aren’t quite right in the right way, at the right time.

  2. Slightly off topic, but it’s completely fucking mad that David Cameron just walked off into the sunset after fucking up the country.

  3. Liz Trump is the only image I have in my head.

The absolute silt of what the Tory party has become.

Liz Trump is a real life partridge.

Way way more dangerous than Thatcher because her head is full up with Champagne bubbles.

  4. She’s gonna throw a serious spanner in the works, next few months will be interesting about her approach to the protocol and how she deals with the EU, get a serious sense of “we are the great union blah blah blah” off of her, apparently she idolised Thatcher so that’ll tell you something
