  1. > More Russian-born athletes will compete in Hungarian colors than Hungarian-born athletes at world competitions in figure skating and ice dance this year. One of the consequences of this is that Vivien Papp, national junior champion, will not compete in Hungarian colors in the future either, writes “Válasz Online”.

    > The International Skating Union (ISU) will have a junior grand prix competition at the end of September, where four competitors will compete in Hungarian colors, but neither they nor the national team captain were born in Hungary. For the women, Polina Dzumaniyazova is from Moscow, for the men Alexander Vlasenko is from Siberia, and for the ice dancers Mark Shapiro and Maya Benkiewicz also came from Moscow. Even the director of the Hungarian National Skating Federation (MOKSZ), Vardanjan Gurgen, is not of Hungarian origin, but was born in Armenia.

    > In itself, it is not unusual in Hungarian figure skating for foreigners to take to the ice, but a competitor told the newspaper anonymously that “under Vardanjan’s leadership, a kind of new Russian base is being built, where the Hungarians are more and more just bio-decorations”.

    > Papp Vivien feels this majority of Russians firsthand, she wrote in a Facebook comment:
    >
    > “since I had excellent results, they quickly brought in a Russian (…). I will go where I am welcomed and appreciated! My beautiful country does not need me”.

    > “Válasz Online” contacted Vivien Papp’s parents, who said that their daughter will compete in the colors of another country, and that she has already received offers from three places.

    > The article also reveals that sports director Vardanjan previously said in several Russian media that he does not agree with the ISU’s decision to suspend the right of Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete. It was also a sanction against Russia for attacking Ukraine in February.
