Europe’s next-generation night trains aim to draw passengers away from planes

  1. next generation night trains aim to draw passengers by serving free nightrain because they love that stuff and can never get enough 😀

  2. costs 4 times of an airplane ticket if you dont want to sleep in a cabin with strangers and takes 5 times longer to get from A to B. no thank you. there is a reason why theres only ÖBB being interested in this.

  3. We recently tried to find a spot on a night train to anywhere 6 weeks ahead of time, just to enjoy the experience of sleeping on a train and waking up in a new city, and they were all booked. I feel like the people complaining here are in the “No one goes there anymore; it’s too crowded!” camp.

  4. I took the öbb couchettes recently and it was quite shit. Had a much better experience with Trenitalia though, but they only do night trains for national routes (south to north)

  5. Capsule night trains would be incredible. I don’t want to share a train room with people I don’t know. Hook me up with a capsule at a decent price, and I’ll swear off planes for european destinations.

  6. Ummm when Lithuanian railways say that there is no point for extending a route for 15 km to Latvia to make connection with Daugavpils and we only have trains to Poland only on weekends, this is surreal.

  7. I love nighttrains. And more than just ÖBB are looking into recreating the old line. SJ too f.ex.

  8. Wow, the nightjets where already comfy and by far my favorite method when traveling with friends. Just book a cabin and have the time of your life while traveling way faster that with a car and without all the hassle of plains.

  9. Need to standardise trains across Europe (track size, electrification type, etc) so we don’t need to swap trains and just sleep. Also need to be cheaper.

Trains also need to be modernised. WiFi, power plugs, etc. Maybe some food?
And sleeper cabins are often for 6people with one charger port.

I was on a bus in Peru and you can recline like a king, they have small screens, WiFi, chargers, free snacks, etc.

Yet trains in Europe (who can carry way more) offer you nothing.

We can make trains luxury again!

  10. I wish I’d take this all the time instead of a plane, but single bed capsules/rooms please then I’m sold
