Can you tell me what this is?

  1. An electricity socket with two outlets which have been blocked to prevent their use.

    I don’t know why.

  2. Looks like baby proofing. You should be able to snap them right off. Still just on the safe side you should disconnect the fuse before taking them off.

Edit: if this is in a rental apartment you should contact your landlord.

  3. Old-old style ungrounded socket. The issue with these “shallow” sockets is that the contacts in the plug get electrified before the body of the plug blocks contact with them.

Other than that, safe to use. Someone has installed safety plugs to prevent accidental insertion of stuff into the socket.

  4. Old wall socket that has child guards in it. They have a mechanism to release them and then you can use it normally, just don’t use anything with the larger plug with ground on it or if you do accept that it can be dangerous if something goes wrong.

  5. I’d have assumed it was a hook for mounting a washing line. Doesn’t look anything like an electrical fitting to me, but we have weird sockets in Ireland that don’t look anything like continental ones.
