> To limit the amount customers’ bills go up by, the government is expected to compensate energy firms for the difference between the wholesale price for gas and electricity they pay and the amount they can charge customers.
But… why? If the energy firms knew this was coming no wonder they’ve been quoting such ridiculous amounts. It’s like a method of stealing loads of money from the taxpayer.
People not only don’t know what’s happening to them, they don’t even know that they don’t know.

>Meanwhile, Ms Truss is also reportedly set to announce she is scrapping the ban on fracking which was introduced in 2019 over concerns it was causing earth tremors.
Drill baby, drill!
Still going up another 25% though. That’s not my definition of a cut.
If it doesn’t include tens of billions for energy saving measures and new building and renting regulations then it’s a clear sign it’s just a bung to the energy firms and we can expect to be screwed for another £100bn next winter.
“From today, all properties under a certain value will be subject to blackout conditions during peak hours!”
I haven’t heard any plans to *cut* the bills?
All that has been announced is that the government is turning into Klarna and forcing us to buy now and pay later
Knew this would happen. Media leak and brief over the last month that bills could rise to a cap of £7k, then announce the amount will be capped to £2.5k, showing they’re the heroes of this crisis – a figure that’s already too high.
If it was as easy as capping prices why didn’t they do this 3 months ago?
Soooooo what about actually cutting the bills instead of freezing them at the already extortionate prices they are?
Hope I’ll be in those millions…
Technically, she’s just making it take longer to pay the bill, not actually reduce it
It’s not cutting them though, it’s freezing them AFTER the October cap rise and then using tax payers money to pay off the difference to the energy companies so they still get their profits.
We’re still going to be paying for it.
>Liz Truss set to unveil plans to cut energy bills for millions
Liz Truss set to unveil plans too cap the **RISE** in energy bills paid for by millions, paid for in higher energy bills over the next 2 decades whilst protecting obscene profits for the energy producers.
FTFY.
The BBC are really pulling out all the stops to suck up to Liz aren’t they?
Brexit – middle-aged/elderly types with the ‘fuck you, I’ve got mine, pulling up the ladder now’ attitude are what did it.
Tories winning general elections recently – same thing.
In it’s simplest form, the argument is:-
Labour = tax the Earth from orbit to ‘enable’ the scroungers.
Tories = ‘intelligent’ taxing to feed the economy and benefit the masses.
It’s bullshit, but the general electorate keeps falling for it.
Capping at £2500 is still too fucking high. It’s going to be a real struggle for low to middle earners and even worse for those on benefits.
Like a price cap of £2.500 is going to help any cunt out 🙄 slag.
It’s all just confirming that the world needs to, hurry up, stop using fossil fuel and become self reliant on renewable energy.
Russia has stopped giving gas to eu countries that sanctioned against them during their war in Ukraine. Those countries are now buying gas from elsewhere that hasn’t got enough supply to meet this new demand. The global market is increasing its prices as a result. Fossil fuels go to the highest bidder. Even though the uk produces fossil fuel we still sell it on the global market 1st so prices remain high. Our government could enforce a law to prioritise UK fuel supply to come to UK 1st for cheap. But capitalism!
