[OC] UK’s PM plans to cap annual gas prices to address the affordability crisis. The UK, unlike other European countries, is not dependent on Russian gas, but since the country’s gas market is so tightly linked to the rest of Europe, high prices on the continent usually result in higher prices.

  1. Be interested to see how much is spend on UK produced gas? When so many redditors harp on that MPs giving money to their mates or bailing out energy companies (without understanding the difference between supplier and producer), it a nice chart to show most of the cash goes overseas.

  2. I remember all the people smugly saying we would be so much better off than continental Europe because of how little we depend on Russian gas. Welcome to the free market.

  3. Is this going to be by:

    – massive subsidies from tax revenue
    – banning gas exports (and exports by gas-fed industries like fertilizers and petrochemicals)

    Or some other magic?

  4. This is only LNG imports we also have pipeline imports from Norway. We also have a pipeline to Belgium and the Netherlands with flows going in both directions depending on supply and demand.

  5. Great piece, why is nobody talking about the middle East? Quatar is mentioned here but what happened to the Arabs? Did OPEC screw it up?
