How/why does something like this take so long to be recognised?
Haven’t seen the movie, only read about it.. the bravery I haven’t heard of before. If these lads were American there would be untold amounts of stories/movies about this.. I don’t understand why this has been hidden away in the depths of time.
Should’ve been done sooner, I guess this might show the power of how movies can put a spotlight to things
The Wikipedia article worded it perfectly: [Despite inflicting approximately 1,300 casualties (including up to 300 killed) on the attacking force, with no deaths amongst “A” Company, and surrendering only after running out of ammunition, it would be more than half a century before Ireland acknowledged the bravery and achievements of the vastly outnumbered Irish soldiers at the Siege of Jadotville.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Jadotville)
Finally. How they were treated is an absolute bloody disgrace.
Lol medals for surrender. Shameful. Die on your shield like men- then again this is also Ireland
First to be asked for help, first in last out and still helping out with various UN peace keeping tasks.
It’s a pity the UN didn’t reciprocate in 1969, the real cowards are the UN itself.

I wonder if this was all cause of the movie?
