When a global recession starts people bet on the dollar it’s a safe bet added to them increasing Interest rates hard and fast.
Hence it being level with the euro now to. It’s at a 26 year high vs the yen.
It’s not necessarily all bad, the low £ means that it’s cheaper to invest in the UK bringing in more money. Although it’s times like these when multi-million pound London properties get bought up and then sold 12 months later when the £ rises (assuming it does)
Good for exports, investment, and for those with USD priced assets (e.g. pensions), Not great for going on holiday (and other importers),and inflation.
Can we not post CNBC please? They are lying shit bags, nothing they say doesn’t have someones hand in their back pockets, they are also active in market manipulation…which is funny when you can short the pound.

I’ve got over $1000 in Christmas and birthday money from relatives to exchange but never know when is a good time.

I’m an economic noob- I am living and working abroad at the moment and have been for the past 4 years. The major portion of my money is in foreign currency. I’m moving back to the UK in 2024- is this a good or bad time to send the lion’s share to my UK bank?
I understand that I’ll get more GBP today than I would last year, but I’m worried that I’m going to send my money and just watch it become worth less over the next two years if it’s sitting in a UK bank account.
My wife is also a foreign national, so we need a large sum of money in the bank to meet requirements, as I’ll be arriving back unemployed.
Do I wait and watch or send it back now?
What happened in 1985?
That will be why the uk price of the iPhone 14 is more than the dollar price. I was a bit shocked to see that. It was bad enough when the numbers matched.
