Malta soon to be the 2nd country in the world to have free public transport for all

  1. Spain next, please?

I’ll tell you this: i’ll gladly pay a kilometer-tax on every kilometer driven in my car, if that means that anyone can take public transport for free.

  2. Here in my country we increase public transport prices every year while our politicians talk of the importance of taking public transport to save the environment 🙂

  3. There’s no such thing as a “free public transport for all”.

You’re paying for it in taxes, so if it’s going to be free, something else that you have to pay a mandatory tax for, is going to increase in it’s cost.

  4. Eh. It’s a welcome change, sure. But it’s not going to change much.

The infrastructure is bad, the bus routes are inefficient, and car dependency is extremely high (600 cars per 1000 inhabitants). People will still prefer to use their cars. Malta needs to create more incentives to us alternative modes of transport (better cycling lanes, ferry systems) and stop doing the opposite (like widening roads).
