For anyone interested, the national institute for languages now has a free platform for learning Luxemburgish.
Enjoy!

  1. I did the 40 minute test at the start. It was quite tough but I was pleased to see my level. It then pegs you at the level to start your lessons. I opted to go a level lower as my grammar is weak. What I do not like is the requirement to be exact in your entries of umlauts etc. when you type, whereas Duolingo is more forgiving with diacritics.

  2. Took a look – it is quite usable. Good interface. Lessons really exist 🙂

Registered immediately and started the lesson 1 – it actually works 🙂

    Will continue.

  3. Love the design of the site and most of the exercises, yet I am quite disappointed how the “final section tests” are structured.

Example: I picked the level A2, first section about showing someone a new apartment. All starts off well, I first get a dialogue, I get to know new vocabulary and then a few exercises testing my listening comprehension, inserting words into sentences (you are not writing here you get a choice of words), there is even a minor writing part where you write the missing words (only 7 examples in total).

And then I get to the exam, where there is suddenly a whooping 53 exercises I need to do (to put this into perspective this whole section before it maybe has 1/2 – 3/4 of this quantity). Not only that but these exercises require me to insert words into gaps by writing in addition to that I need to be 100% correct when I write the word (thus all the punctations with the apostrophes and umlauts) in order to accept your answer as correct. Writing is the least important aspect of the Luxembourgish language (even the sproochentest does not require it) but you structure your exams fully around that? Give me a break…

  4. Should I learn German or Luxembourgish? I can get along just fine w French but I would like to integrate myself more in the wociety, which would you recommend?

  5. So I just took the initial test as well. Considering my Luxemburgish is supposed to be native level I got to level C1.

I was sure the reading comprehension would drag me down because I was annoyed and mainly skipped and guessed there.

Turns out u/Maus_Sveti was right and most Luxemburgish people simply can’t properly write! I only got to B2 in gammar while the rest was all C2! 😀
