It’s really interesting to me that there’s so little pushback to the Tories, in year twelve of their reign, just endlessly making Britain…worse.
Many of the school trips especially residential ones are not accessible to all because of cost. So the downsides may not be felt by all.
>the government is helping schools by increasing budgets and recommending energy deals
So an extra £20 for a new kettle for the staff room.
Can see this winter being really devastating for a lot of the UK tourism industry, I think we’re going to see a lot of coach and bus companies going under in the next few months. Along with the residential activity centres that schools usually go to, June/July a lot of them were having to cancel stays because they couldn’t staff them so have already had a poor summer.
Both sad and understandable.
My husband works at a school and they are constantly holding events to raise money for the school. It’s sad that it has to come to that.
People are very happy for school to be a miserable place for kids. Some combination of “that’s how it’s always been”, thinking kids are due less considerations as adults, and handwaving it away as a small period of time despite the massive impact on the rest of kids lives.
For some kids, school trips are the only opportunity to see the world outside their town (or even their local area at times).
No doubt this will impact the poorest children yet again.
Would only really impact the middle class. When I was in school only the posher kids with mummy and daddy bankrolling their elevated childhood experiences were the ones going on nice trips all the time. The kids from the working class families never went unless it was a field trip or somewhere in town that was paid for by the school.
Not sure I ever learnt anything from a school trip. With all the waiting around, travel, being given clipboards with busywork to do, there’s no time to actually learn anything.
We haven’t had a school trip since the start of COVID. Before then it used to be once a year at the very least. Hell, I got to see The Lion King in 2019 as a whole school funded event!!! Absolutely nothing since.
