Unfortunately the metric used was ‘number of Ben Sherman shirts owned’
I want to know why Sudan is much better than South Sudan.
Did they factor in the tyranny of wind turbines and data centres? If only our forefathers knew our struggles.
It does use GNI per capita as a metric so we are inflated quite a bit. But we would be pretty high regardless.
So developed that nobody can afford to find a home, i like the metrics
The HDI has a heavy weighting towards GNI, which is heavily distorted like GDP,
Iceland always wins by default. It’s kind of sillyness. It’s a country but it’s actually a village?
HDI is a strange metric. Anyway well done Ireland, please increase my rent. Some problems with power would be good too.
Why on earth would you make a list with odd numbers on one side and even on the other rather than just proper descending order on the left followed by the right.
Painful.

nice, singapore should be in top 5
“North Korea had never seen such bullshit before”.
We love developers so I reckon that’s why we’re there.
But we are #1 in the world for using ‘Lads’ on Reddit posts!
Fucking Denmark
I’m really surprised at Nigeria. I thought they’d be near the top of African countries.
Ranking highly on these lists is great, but it doesn’t mean that you are some kind of utopia nor does it mean that you should stop striving to fix several issues that we most definitely have – the massive one being an excessively expensive and short supply housing.
One of the ways you stay at the top of these lists is by recognising that problems need to be addressed and actually fixing them. So our national pastime of giving out about absolutely everything serves an important purpose.
Can someone explain how we keep appearing so high up in these lists? What are they measuring to put us ahead of Germany, Luxemburg, Finland, Japan? Please! We’re the most dysfunctional in northern Europe.
We’ve also risen in these rankings by more than any other country since the rankings began.
It doesn’t feel like it
We were second last year and our overall score has gone down.
Just to give R/Ireland’s negativity dose.
Hate the burst your bubble but we used to be second
More accurate than we were, but still too high. Luxembourg, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland, should still be ahead.
What the fuck is “human development”? Are we 0.002% taller? Or are we talking slightly stronger mind-enhancing drugs than everyone else?
Can we have a heading on the top and some way of gauging the figures and how they were calculated?
Why would this list acknowledge that Hong Kong is a special administrative region and simultaneously list it as a country?
Ireland in front of Germany, Austria, Netherlands, haha, good one. Sure mate..
How is Saudi Arabia 35? Ahead of a good many civilised countries where people are treated equally?
Hong Kong at number 4? This doesn’t seem right.
We’re some island for one island all the same.
There’s loads of poverty in Hong Kong
as much as we complain, ireland is legitimately one of the best countries in the world
Lads Ireland is a great place to live*
*If you make close to a 6 figure salary on got on the property market more than 10 years ago
ukraine and Romania are more developed than Cuba?! Gimme a break
The four factors are money, mean and total years of education, and life expectancy…. seems a bit pretentious
What sort of layout is this savagery?
…..and lasses?
Edit: ive been corrected.
The Bri’ish got their backsides spanked by the Irish, and I say this as a Brit!
Hardly
Only the irish would get this fuckin angry at their country ranking high in something
There’s no point posting stuff like this to this sub. Ireland is near the top in nearly every metric.
But people here just can’t help themselves from bitching and moaning.
A load of shite.
That’s because people keen emigrating before things get unsustainable
