Can someone explain to me how these companies are able to report record profits year after year and then have the gall to send a letter like that to the government looking for handouts?
Maybe if we increase sanctions on Russia further we can double those energy bills
I see the comments from people that can’t tell the difference between an energy producer and an energy supplier have arrived already
The market is functioning, otherwise the prices would not soar. If demand is larger than supply prices will rise, this is capitalism 101.
Can someone explain how it is that customers of e.g. Airtricity are impacted by this? I know that an electron is an electron and it’s all part of the same market before going to the customer, but if they generate a kW from wind/solar for every kW I use, why is the rising price of gas (as used for electricity generation) impacting me? Like, if the market rate is 30c per kW, and you generate all the kWs your customers need, then you should be able to buy and sell for minimal difference, surely?
How has domestic energy sustainability not been at minimum been a economic growth policy and at worst been a national security priority for every country over the last 100 years?
The Irish energy market could be sorted completely if they gov north and south invest in new renewables. We’re a small island and our energy needs are small in comparison. Just fucking put some money into it ffs!
Here while you’re bent over we’re all going to take a turn on you
First it’s a medical emergency, then energy, next it will be a food crisis, mark my words. Watch to see if new money is printed with King Charles head on it, if not, could be a sign of a switch to digital currency on the horizon. Bring on the down votes and tin foil hat comments, I don’t give a shit. Remember my comment when we’re being instructed to ration
Won’t be long before we’re all burning our furniture and belongings to just stay warm in winter while the energy suppliers are making record profits time to tax them to the hilt
This is fucking bullshit the price of gas has gone up by 7% over previous high value yet all these companies are raising rates by 30 to 50%. Price gouging at its worse particularly as we have no supply coming from Russia. Typical money grabbing bastards milking the Irish public and government aiding and abetting.
Good thing nobody in elected office has any power to intervene on anything. Let’s not forget this
I dont understand why we cant just build a nuclear power plant and run the entire country off of it
The same cunts will be profitable too
Time to get the chimney swept before the weather turns, I think it’s time to go back to the eld peat and coal to heat up the boiler. Because if they are expecting poor families to shell out Solar panels before winter that’s not going to happen.
aye we should organized a mass “malfunction” in our choice to pay i reckon.
Remember when Clare Daly said this about the sanctions:
“They won’t of course, because nowhere have sanctions ever succeeded in ending a military assault or achieving regime change,” she said.
Daly claimed that sanctions against Russia would not stop its invasion of Ukraine.
“History has taught us that sanctions do not end military conflict. They do not bring peace.
“They make the people suffer, not the oligarchs – the people, the people of Russia, the people of Europe, and they’re not going to help save lives because the more arms you pump into Ukraine, the more the war will be prolonged, the more Ukrainians can and will die, and it might sound radical colleagues, but the answer to war is not more war.
Separately Barry Andrews, a Dublin MEP, yesterday said Ireland should support an EU ban on imports of Russian oil and gas.
The Fianna Fail MEP said the EU will be able to cope with the impact of an energy embargo despite the bloc’s reliance on Russia for supplies of gas, oil and coal.
The same spineless cunts posting records profits are telling us there is no way they can continue to exist without squeezing us harder. Walk them all into the streets and run them over with a lawnmower.
These energy companies are making a killing. and they’re mostly state owned. Why are the government acting helpless to stop this?
I would very much like to have a mortgage cost of only €6000 per year. It’s just fear mongering, even if it is true, which responsible says the projections were “off the Richter scale” ?!
Gas shouldn’t be tied to wholesale electricity and the government just need to cover retrofitting houses especially for solar
Don’t worry. The ECB are going to solve the problem of people not having enough money to afford food and heat by taking more money off them with interest rate hikes.
I don’t know why Irish people are complaining. This is what you sign up for when you support Ukraine. You made your choice, now deal with it.
