Rise in teenage vaping, as drug use falls – survey

  1. Everyone seems to vape now

It’s obviously not good for you even if it’s better than smoking

Looking at all the young people vaping they obviously did not smoke before

  2. The amount of litter and waste from these single use vape pens is astonishing to me. There are boxes in every gutter near me and I’m not in a big city.

Plus the fact they’re single use should be illegal, the batteries are the same as the rechargeable ones, so plenty of life in them and they’re just thrown away.

  3. They were the best thing in the world for me. I used them to quit Marlboro lights 8 years ago, then just stopped vaping. That was after work sent me on 2 Alan Carr courses, plus trying gum, patches, inhilators.

  4. Is drug use really down? Every young person I’ve ever met smokes weed at least semi-reguarly. Half the convos at my last job were between 20-somethings getting fucked on coke and shit

  5. I really don’t see why shops can’t have some sort of battery bin for disposable vapes where they’re sent back to the manufacturer so the batteries and other components can be reused.

  6. My pet peeve is how many of these teenagers vape on public transport.

They seem to think that because it’s not a cigarette, it’s fine to use in an enclosed space surrounded by other people. Without fail, every time I get public transport and a group of teenagers gets on, at least one of them will be vaping.

  7. It’s interesting to see people who never smoked vaping now. I know a couple of youngsters that fall into this category. The whole point of vaping was as a way to give up smoking but now it seems to have become it’s own thing. I wonder how much you even get out of vaping in the way of a buzz. I am wondering if people really do it because they enjoy it or it’s just a social thing to do.

  8. E, Ket, Kratom and Weed are safer than ~~nicotine~~ tobacco. Legalise and tax hard drugs. Increase tax on tobacco and ban cigarettes.

  9. These things were designed to draw kids in. In 2010 smoking was not cool amongst kids, the tobacco industry knew. Boom. Now its only cool to kids. Guess what they do once there’s no vape, smoke fags.

Its a fuckin joke that we allow this to happen to our kids. I remember the last discussion about this and the kickback I got from this same statement, about how it’s better than them smoking cigarettes, since then studies have shown otherwise.

  10. The teens where I work smoke disposable vapes. Approx. £7 each and last them less than a week. The think my refillable one is uncool or something because even when I point out they could save a fortune using liquids they don’t want any of it

  11. I don’t like vaping which is why I don’t do it. But the cool thing is, other people can do it, they can enjoy it right next to me and it doesn’t affect me at all. Unlike cigarettes.

My only issue is what everyone else here is saying, the regulation and design of disposables

  12. I work in education, these things are everywhere. We can’t keep up, students sneak them in and smoke them in classrooms. We just can’t keep up, you can buy them online for dirt cheap, and no way to ID someone, hell we’ve caught the local shop keepers selling them to underage kids. It’s hard to stop them, and we can’t!

  13. It’s better that drug use is down but vaping isn’t exactly good. Then again I’d rather vaping be more common and kids not to be destroyed by drugs. Just need to get them to be Nicotine free and not harmful

  14. I’m on the wire here – it has been exactly 1month today that I’ve had a roll up after 27 years of smoking – I think it’s about being sensible – totally disagree with the people who are throwing them on the pavement – it’s common sense – don’t litter. I’ve tried patches, gum etc but these things are convenient…..for me personally it’s the hit of nicotine

  15. Vaping is huge amongst teens, so much easier, cleaner and cheaper than cigarettes. The disposable vapes are also very strong and incredibly addictive. There are definitely many kids who vape purely because they can get away with it as it’s so easy to hide. Teen behaviour is the same as always, but the amount of them that will have a severe nicotine addiction is worrying. I’m assuming the vapes will eventually go, but the addiction will still be there. Its a big step backwards in trying to move people away from smoking imo.

  16. It’s a coping mechanism. It always has been. It’s incredibly hard being a teen, especially nowadays, so I’m not surprised at all that they’re turning to alternative methods of coping

  17. Pretty weird to see the swing against vaping in recent years, when vaping first became popular around 2012 I remember Reddit etc being very pro vaping as a safe way to quit cigarettes. Infact, I myself quit a 10 a day habit using a vape which I’m not sure would’ve happened without the vape, or without jumping on the Reddit vape hype.

Infact most of the anti vape sentiment seems to be coming from the US which makes me think there’s some money to be made (tobacco companies?) railing against vapes.

    The following are factually true:
    – Vaping has been demonstrated to be effective in helping smokers quit
    – Vaping is not good for you and should be avoided if possible
    – Vaping is many many times safer than smoking though

  18. All these kids are addicted to these tiny puff pens. Fairly sure ingesting lungfuls of unregulated Chinese chemical liquids can’t be very good for you …

  19. these little fuckers of elf bars are so addictive. never smoked in my life, was on a night out around Christmas time 2021 and been smoking them ever since! Trying to stop but its difficult.

  20. Was in a vape shop the other day and their was some kids mum in their bollocking the owner on speaker phone because the shop keeper had not verified the kids age.

  21. Zero surprise here, one of my flatmates has a daughter and whenever her mates visit, they *all* have a disposable vape. Every single one. Apparently over 50% of the whole school does.

    They’re a disaster.
