Some people ask me why the Catalan National Day doesn’t feel like a welcoming and feel good day like others in Europe, where you celebrate culture and symbols. My answer to that is that today is not a day to celebrate and be happy, but a day to be upset and angry. A day to remember that wanting to protect our language is compared to nazism by the heirs of fascism. A day to remember that Spain sent 15 000 policemen to beat people up because we wanted to vote. While many Spaniards cheered for them.
It might be in the past, but I don’t forget, and I can’t forgive while Spain doesn’t change course.
