Tito’s funeral in May of 1980. A total of 128 countries sent delegations which included 4 kings, 31 presidents, 6 princes, 22 prime ministers, and 47 ministers of foreign affairs – it was one of the largest state funerals in history

  1. I’m quite shocked to see so many democratic countries sent delegates to a dictator’s funeral. Hypocrisy at its best.

  2. They were all to a person looking at the corpse with an eye to ripping it to pieces with their teeth for their own countries’ profit.

That’s why they made a show of wearing mourning clothes. Because back then Yugo was seen as a critical region for the balance of power between 1st and 2nd worlds.

These days, not so much. If a Serb leader dies, you can get an ambassador with a wrinkled suit to show up with a sympathy letter signed by a president or chancellor, but only with one of those “autosign” machines. It’s the darndest thing with geo politics. The “geo” is always changing. Action in 1914 kicked off a World War, now an assaniation in Balkans would kick off the front page of a regional newspaper and that’s it.
