  1. This drive to make Unionists feel welcome, when they’ve done nothing in all their years as a collective to understand the plight of Irishmen is pathetic.

Whatever of individual gestures of empathy, that’s much appreciated, I’m sure.

Magnanimity in victory for a United Ireland is one thing; pandering to the whims of racist louts who despise us on a molecular level, another entirely.

  2. Fine Gael are a scourge on this island. Their entire history has been complete sycophancy to Britain. If Richmond, Flanagan, Bruton and the rest of the fuckers had their way we’d be re-joining the commonwealth and the United Kingdom and pledging allegiance to “her majesty”. Fuck that.

  3. What a bunch of wankers, no fucking pride, self respect or backbone.

I have no interest in gloating over her death and won’t but I want nothing to do with the British royal family in Ireland.

  4. If there’s a ‘New Ireland’ then the monarch should have feck all to do with it…. oh and Declan Rice should be battered if he even looks at Ireland on a globe.

  5. If it was 100 years ago, it would be people like John Bruton who’d rat you out to the brits. He and other west brits turn my stomach. It’s alright to be friends with the UK but these people want us to live on our knees to a foreign monarchy.

  6. The whole fucking point of an independent Ireland is no monarch. Fuck off you wannabe Brit.

Of all the West Brit FG-ers, he’s probably the worst.

  7. Utterly clueless.

The unionists that actually care about that stuff object to the very concept of a 21st century liberal secular democracy. Where’s Brutons role for banning abortion, gays, foreigners and ensuring protestants have primacy over others in parliament.

The unionists that don’t care, do not want to join FG’s Ireland that has managed to be twice as rich but have a worse standard of living. FG have been promising slainte care since 2011. That’s what they’re looking at.

  8. It sounds he’s saying the royals could constructively say “get with the program” to Unionists when faced with a United Ireland. What with the Unionists beings Unionists, that does actually make sense. Simply hoping for them to overnight be republican or logically come around is magical thinking Boris Johnson would be proud of.

  9. So to sum it up Bruton is hinting at Ireland being in the commonwealth to appease Unionists.

  10. Johnny Britain.

Rte news had him on the phone during there extended news yesterday. He couldnt wait to be on the news he phoned in.

  11. I think the writing is on the wall for a united Ireland. Everyone knows it but nobody is willing to say it. It’s not like much would change, similar to German unification in a lot of ways, same language, etc.

  12. “healing the divisions” It’s the monarchy that creates the division. The glorious King Charles III pledged allegiance to the Church of England. He’s a unionist.

No appeasement for the unionists. When we get a united Ireland they’ll be treated as equals to all the other citizens of the republic. That’s it. No special status.

  13. What am I missing here. He says the royal family can play a role in appeasing unionist when the time for reunification comes? That doesn’t sound that unreasonable.

  14. If you don’t understand what he’s saying. He’s advocating for a united Ireland under a British flag.

The secret of the queens success. My fucking god. She’s not the queen, she’s not our queen. She’s their queen, the British queen you gobshite. Stop fucking fawning over her.
