This is what an article had to say about Ireland. Apparently, Ireland is doing well but the housing crisis is a bit of an issue. Thoughts?

  1. Nobody is disputing that Ireland is a great place to be a large company. I only wish I and my friends/family were large companies also.

  2. Yes very stable.

The banking system collapsed about 10 years ago, Irish citizens had to buy the banks to prevent financial disaster.

The IMF had to bailout the country to the tune of €160 billion.

Currently students can’t attend college because their is no accomadation.

Rental rates are highly unstable, with Ireland being the most expensive country to rent in the entire EU.

The majority of corporate tax comes from 5 companies, if one of them were to pull out of the country it would be disastrous.

The state operates at a loss, with foreign debt ever increasing, debt currently stands at €240 billion today.

  3. Economic assessments worry only about the finances. It has little bearing on quality of life or wealth distribution.

    Never trust economic assessments

  4. Joining the EU transformed our country. We also made some very canny pro-business decisions like investing massively in third-level STEM courses, wooing US companies, reducing our corporate tax rate, and setting up the IDA. Whisper it quietly, but this happened mainly under the watch of FF.

Back in the 60s, 70s and 80s Ireland was a developing country and had poor working opportunities. Of my parents’ five siblings, three had to emigrate for work. Those that emigrated are substantially better off than my parents.

Those of us complaining on r/Ireland don’t know how lucky we have it. We have near full employment, and a lot of people are earning the kinds of salaries that our parents could only have dreamed of. Emigration has dropped to very low levels, and for the first time in modern history people want to immigrate to Ireland.

Clearly we need new ideas in government to address the housing crisis and improve social services. But in the long term the transformation in our country has been remarkable
