A population density map of Switzerland showing the distribution of population. Could you name the red and brown cities in Switzerland? (the answers are here [https://i.redd.it/qov9qc0mhr281.png](https://i.redd.it/qov9qc0mhr281.png))
The goal of the post is to show the difference in population density in between the 3 geographical regions of Switzerland. The Alps (the big whites in the south) cover roughly 58% of the country, the populated Central Plateau around 31% and the Jura 11% (the white in the northwest). Also Genève has the densest city center while Zürich is the biggest metropole.
Method: Paint pro programme, I used based maps and overlaid them with google maps screenshot views, population density maps or for the big cities with maps of their districts and quartiers.
Data: [https://www.citypopulation.de/](https://www.citypopulation.de/) and Google maps allows to measure distance and count surface.
Cool project! It’s interesting to see that Switzerland has no metropolitan areas like Lyon, Milano or Munich. However, there is that long yellow band from Geneva to Lake Constance. Indicating that you can make substantial business by just serving everything along the A1 autobahn.
Nice work!
It would look better without the black lines surrounding the areas.
You made me discover the dombes region. I had nevers seen the 100th of small lake north of Lyon.
Wasn’t the Chaux-de-Fonds weirdly super-populated? Something like the 3rd most populated city in swiss-romande or something? Did they extinct from taxes?
