Longford County Council spent more than €40,000 on construction work on a house it bought from Robert Troy for almost twice what the Longford–Westmeath TD paid for it Troy explained his profit on the house as a result of the work he’d carried out on it

  1. The ONLY thing wrong with what he did was selling it to the CoCo. Aside from that it was a genius business move. However, he was literally screwing his own fucking constituents, and a voxpop I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago had most of the people saying ‘he made a mistake but I’d still vote for him again’. People can be so dumb it’s like the story of putting the frog in water and slowly bringing it to the boil.

However, I do have to ask, did the CoCo not have the house assessed before buying it or was that decision made by Troy or a buddy in the relevant section?

  2. This lad and everyone involved on the part of the council should be under investigation for theft of public money. In fact, I would say the council itself should be investigated and any large sums of money paid out scrutinised. How many other cronys and mates are being handed hundreds of thousands of Euros from Longford County Council?

All that property tax that’s being collected in Dublin and sent around the country…well here’s a great example of where it’s going.

  3. Lol. Yeah, no corruption here at all to see. When are we going to prosecute people like this? Or will this be another one added to the long list of zero accountability of public servants. Probably will.

  4. I love Irish Politics. you find this little thread that looks kind of a little bit off and you pick it up and then start following it as you keep pulling on the string, all the while the stench just keeps getting worse and worse until eventually you blindly fall into a huge hole filled with shit, and there’s no escaping it. Every scandal, every time.

  5. The funny thing is Troy probably paid much more money on the house, but in a classically Irish way most of it was under the table and cash to avoid tax. So he may well have spent a lot more on the house but can only declare so much, making it look like he made much more money than he did.

    Eejit.

  6. To be fair the council in longford is pretty sown up. Theres two big families here that are treated like royalty. One of them, who the mayor and county councillor Martin Mulleady is part of- owns the only dumps in the county (which were charged for glass bottles and garden waste), bin collections, and big building company, didn’t even get a slap on the wrist for taking his Mickey out in a pub and doing the helicopter to a load of young ones. There’s a video of it.
