Hello, Iceland! This is a 3D rendered elevation of Austurland I have just made based on a 1988 old map by the Geodætisk Institut. I thought you’d like to see it.

Here you’ll find some more info about the project:
The original map can be found in high resolution at the [Global Volcanism Program website](https://volcano.si.edu/) by the Smithsonian Institution, a huge repository of volcano-related data around the world, including thousands of maps.
Under [this](http://atlas.lmi.is/mapview/?application=DEM) link, you’ll see the available elevation data for Iceland at a resolution, if I remember correctly, of 10 metres.
To achieve these results, I used QGIS and Blender, both of them open source, plus some Photoshop in order to adjust lights and tones a bit.
By zooming the image you’ll be able to see the map in the highest quality possible Reddit allowed me. Feel free to download it, print it or whatever you fancy.
Of course, if you have any questions or suggestions, if you have ever been in this area and have some story to tell, feel free to share. I’ll try to be around and answer to everyone 🙂
Also, you can find me at [@the.itinerarium](http://instagram.com/the.itinerarium) for many more maps of the world, including some others of Iceland.
Takk!
Cool
Snæfell looks less impressive here, it is very distinct when looking from the ground.
Thank you really cool
