Imagine sitting on all that gas, literally forcing your customers to find alternatives.
Euro hitting a two decade low as well.
>Fears over sky-high energy prices, and possible shortages, pushed the euro further below parity against the US dollar. sending the single currency as low as $0.9879 against the US dollar for the first time in two decades.
And the pound sliding too. The cost of supporting Ukraine is getting steeper and steeper. I think it is right to support them but I don’t know how long the public will agree.
At least we can sleep with a clear conscious that our oil is coming from Saudi Arabia instead of Russia.
Hopefully this nudges people to realising that renewable energy is all about energy security. It’s not perfect, but reducing gas consumption as quickly and as much as possible can only be a good thing.
Putin will use this to punish the west for supporting Ukraine and for sanctions.
He knows this will weaken resolve.
Why would Russia sanction us?
This will cause war. Just what Boris wants
Gosh!
It’s a good then job we only buy a tiny amount of gas from Russia and most of our supply comes from easily controllable companies that are currently profiteering out of this situation… Oh, wait.. Tories.
Dear Germany. Maybe you should have had the sense to keep your fucking mouths shut about being on target to fill your gas storage.
I like to check on the fixed price that Scottish Power will offer when I see these articles. They’ve stopped offering fixed prices completely now.
I mean, we’re blatantly at war with Russia. Admittedly, it’s an economic war for the time being, but the Government needs to be honest about that. This business-as-usual approach isn’t working, and is going to kill a thousand over the winter, simply because the Tories loath to reflect that with tax rises on the wealthiest. What was it? It was something like a 95% tax on earnings over the top bracket during WW2? Even if it doesn’t go that far, the impact on the poorest members of society has to be offset somehow. Instead, we’ve got clowns in charge, too busy running a circus and cream-pieing each other in the face…
Now watch as the energy companies put up their prices even higher in line with gas prices despite most of them are using large amounts of renewable energy, but fuck me don’t let that stop them get some wonga.
Blowing up our coal power station looks a bit stupid now.
Despicable country. Starts a war, punishes anyone that doesn’t back them up by targeting the poorest and most vulnerable.
My friend keeps bragging to me about his shares in gas.
Profiting off misery.
Fun fact keeping that pipeline closed might be why they’re losing the war
nuclear nuclear nuclear power.
Or spend the 50billion on making Thorium work if you are so terrified of chernobyls – China about to power their first Thorium plant on this year.
It fell quite sharply after too, so the BBC changed the headline.
The reality is gas is an extremely volatile commodity, particularly so over the last 12 months, and we should be weening ourselves off it so fast as if it’ll run out within months.
Seriously F*** Putin. Another person is is pissing me off right now.
The priority needs to be saving the climate, not energy prices. In fact, I want energy prices to soar even higher if it means saving the planet.
Good job government, fuck us over some more with your proxy war.
British Gas produce their Electric from 75% Renewable and 25% Nuclear.. Its on their Website.. So what has the price of Gas to do with my electric bill tripling and abut to go up again? I don’t use Gas…
The law needs to change on Electricity prices being dictated by Gas Prices regardless of production method.
IF newspapers are going to do scare stories every single time the gas prices rises intraday it would be nice if they could at least update the article when the price drops back later that same day.
Europe continues to shoot itself in the foot with the sanctions it imposed. Paying for Russian gas through a third party but paying a premium.
