I’m honestly surprised she has to pay anything for energy bills at Downing Street. Does Biden pay to heat the residential area of the White House? Genuine question. It just seems an odd thing to do.
This is nonsense, no fan of truss but presumably she will have another house that will need heating etc.
Really couldn’t give a shit. Politicians spend a lot of time in public buildings and in the grand scheme of things, even if it was £10k it seems like a non story.
Would far rather see labour presenting a raft of policy measures they would implement and pressuring more for like, policy change than personality point scoring.
When we’re looking at Germany offering €65bn in support for energy prices, I don’t think spending our time worrying about a £2,000 subsidized bill…
This is such a non-story, it doesn’t matter what the Downing Street energy bill will be, Downing Street is a place of work for many civil servants as well as the PM (regardless of whether you like them or not) yes it is also a residence but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be subsidies to ensure the workers have a warm and light workplace, I expect to be able to go to my palace of work to save heating my home for the day, why should we deny that right to worker who happen to work at Downing Street. Also the PM is paid out of the public pocket anyway, so however you cut it the public still pays.
Stories like this, and Rishi has no poor friends and doesn’t know how to use contactless make the left and Labour look so petty and undermines the genuine criticisms of corruption and cruelty.
Who will pay?
Honestly, it’s not like she had much say in that. If she wants the PM job, Number 10 goes with it, Can she “downsize”? No.
There’s no shortage of things to have a go at Truss about, but this isn’t one of them.
Seems like a really petty thing to talk about at this time.
We are a large economy and developed nation the people who run it should have heating in the government buildings and offical residences. How exactly that is paid for is not really a crucial issue.
What we want to be discussing are things that will actually affect the way we are handling this energy crisis. Things that matter to the 70 million people who live in this country.
Pissing around over Downing Street heating bills and a matter of £2000 is completely fucking irrelevant.
We have serious problems folks. We should be serious voters interested in serious matters and detailed answers that actually make sense.
I hate what has become of Labour. Fucking clown party now, horrible.
