First time making pierogi, not the best looking but the taste was ok! Any tips on how to improve them?

  1. That’s how homemade pierogi’s are supposed to look like. As long as you boil them instead of using a frying pan.

  2. Dont spare salt and pepper to the stuffing. add an egg and a bit of salt to the dough. after boiling I’m spraying them with olive To make them less sticky but this also adds a bit of flavor. Serve them with melted butter

  3. I would definitely apply more heat to the onions and belly as I always like shit like this extra crispy, otherwise these are mighty awesome looking pierogi.

  4. You could boil them for a bit shorter time, but otherwise they’re looking good! Try frying them next, they’re even better that way

  5. Try making the dough with boiling water instead of room temperature or cold water. It makes it a bit stronger so that it’s easier to roll our thinner and you can add more filling.

  6. tip on how to improve them: instead of pork and onion, use potato and kiełbasa. greatest pierogi of all time.

on a serious note, just experiment with spices, fillings, flour, crust, etc. It’s a very versatile food, and you can find your favourite ones unexpectedly. My favourite pierogi are made with peanut flour mixed with cayenne pepper, with a sweet potato chorizo filling.

  7. Highly recommend putting Strawberries into your pierogi. If you can get your hands on śmietana, pour it on them and throw some sugar on the pierogi (or ignore the sugar part, it’s great either way)

    Top tier stuff

  8. They look delicious! ahhh my mouth is watering 🤤🤤🤤 you can try all sorts of filling, my favourite savory is with: potatoes, quark/sour milk cheese/twaróg, onion and salt&pepper. If you’d like to try them sweet i recommend sour milk cheese or cheesecake filling with sugar. Then put some fruit and joghurt on top of them! My grandma has this trick too, after folding the pieróg she takes a fork and presses the fold. Makes a homemade kinda decoration, like a frill 😊

  9. 1. Most important: don’t cook them too long; its like with spaghetti: a bit al dente is better.
    2. If you cooked too many, you can reheat them by frying them in a pan, on both sides, so they get some color and get slightly crispy in some places.
    3. You can freeze them uncooked, sprinkled with plenty of flour.
    4. Try sauerkraut + mushrooms filling
    5. Try a filling with cracklings, onions, cheese and potatoes (‘ruskie’)
    6. Try a filling with blueberries and put some sugar, cinnamon & creme on the top

  10. Never seen pierogi to look as bad as these but good to hear they were tasting fine. Practice and you’ll do better next time.
