New PM’s energy bill options to include freeze plan

  1. I saw on here someone predicted that the next PM would freeze or stop the price cap hike to appear like the knight in shining armor for the people, if you’re reading this, send me your lotto predictions for this weeks draw please

  2. So what’s actually happened is civil servants have drawn up options and approaches that the new PM could look at.

With a big emphasis on could.

Remember truss has been very explicit in her disdain for literally everyone but the rich; has consistently said the rich deserve everything while everyone else deserves nothing all while consistently saying it’s fine to let everyone freeze to death.

BBC still trying to make Tories look competent

  3. Just remember that whatever help may come, never forget what absolute fucking rhetoric they’ve both come out with during this “campaign”. Saying one thing to get votes and then doing another when you take office, to the extent that Truss potentially will, should be fucking criminal.

  4. It’s funny how western societies love capitalism, until they don’t. But then they love it again, until they don’t. What is our actual economic model?

It also makes me laugh that house price inflation over the last decades has been every bit as destructive as the recent energy price inflation – I’d argue far more destructive to society – yet the government will not do anything to address.

  5. If they freeze it at the October cap it was obviously deliberate to keep prices high and Government revenue up because they could have done it weeks ago instead

  6. She will do fuck all, she’s gonna protect energy companies let them charge what they like.
millions are pushed into poverty by this government, this winter is going to be a catastrophe for millions of people when I a choice is to eat or heat the home.

Tory party will continue to line there rich friends pockets while millions freeze and starve.

sad thing is I don’t think labour would win an election as this country is brainwashed , I spoke to a midwife last week who tried to convince me that everyone may as well vote Tory as all parties are the same.
A midwife who works for the NHS seeing new parents struggling each day votes Tory, this country is fucked.

  7. No mention of freezing business rates. Businesses are looking at almost £1/kWh now, a lot of businesses simply cannot absorb that and will have to stop operating.

  8. borrow more to help people this winter

You don’t need to borrow, you can stop giving our money away to your chums and then quit using expenses to heat your second home.

  9. Freezing the price wont’t help, it must be lowered. People already can’t afford it and it’s not even winter yet.

  10. I’ve read about 10 threads on gas price issues, which is an issue based on an imbalance between supply and demand. There is almost no mention in any thread about how we we either increase supply, or drive down demand.

Putting caps on energy prices, or giving money to those who can’t pay, are a bandaid but not a long term solution.

How do you suggest we do either of these?

  11. Freeze plan is to literally let everyone freeze.

Except the Tory donors; they’re burning those £50 notes written off as fraud for contracts during Covid.

  12. Question is how to pay for that.

The gas/electric companies can’t absorb the loss. They would all have to declare bankruptcy. Admittedly a “cheap” way to re-nationalize them. Oh wait, Tory government not Labor…

A windfall tax on the production companies is the only funding that ***might*** cover that cost.

  13. I hope that, if they do freeze prices, those of us who bought fixes a few months back (having already paid over the odds for several months) will benefit from their fixed price being reduced as it would suck to have been paying over the cap for several months to then be forced to continue to pay more when everyone else gets a cheaper deal!

  14. This is the same party who suggested feeding the nations grannies to Covid-19 in a bid to keep your local Asda open.

    They do not know kindness.

  15. My opinion of the government is so low I assumed the “freeze plan” was just telling people to freeze, not freezing prices.

  16. Price caps worked well last time, i think we should try it again and again and again until the market findentals of supply and demand balance themselves out
