How very dare people laugh at politicians and media pundits!
Sure, you can be impartial, but the right wing has to take democracy seriously. They cannot be putting forward jokes like Liz Truss and expect the BBC and other comedy panel shows to take them seriously.
With how dominant Conservative policies have been in the last 100 or so years, they must have some decent advocates for Conservative policies stashed away somewhere, right?
What are they on about? Joe Lycett is very right wing.
The far right isn’t really very funny though.
Has the BBC ever been impartial where comedy is concerned? As someone who is 60yrs old, I would say the BBC has always attacked the Party in power more than anyone else. I remember Thatcher, Blair and Brown getting a right bashing in the past to name just 3
Next they will want to get rid of “Mock the Week”; oh wait …
Always amusing to see how right wingers’ commitment to free speech utterly crumbles after they receive the gentlest of criticism 🤣
We need some left wingers to counteract right wingers like Joe Lycett, I agree.
I watched a clip of the Lycett thing.
Before she asks Lycett for his opinion, Laura K cites the Times and the Daily Telegraph. A centre right and right wing paper. Laura K then goes on to admonish Emily Thornberry, a labour MP, for smirking about what the PM’s said.
Very obvious she’s just another left wing woke journalist. The BBC is very left wing.
Glad that Joe Lycett was on to offer some balance. At least he’s right wing. He’s been very clear on that. He gave very clear answers. I’m very reassured.
Joe Lycett’s a start, but the BBC should go further. They need to get more well-known, popular right-wing comedians on, like … um …
Maybe the right can be funny? But I guess taking the piss out of the poor, immigrants and disable people wouldn’t really sit well with most people.
But honestly they take the slightest joke/criticism as a threat on thier life. If someone making a few jokes or god forbid mocks you results in this knee jurk reaction then you really need to have a good, long look at yourself.
We dont really need any rightwing comedians anyway, the rightwing press and politicians are all ready make enough material on thier own.
So pleased to see Stewart Lee talking about all these c word cunts.
Doesn’t the BBC realise that if it scraps the license fee and becomes privatised, it can be as blatantly one-sided, unbalanced, and left-wing as it wants to be – like how it is right now anyway – without courting any of the controversy/public outrage that comes along with it!
Obviously they don’t want to do that, because they rake it far too much money from all the mugs they gleefully extort, bully, harass and force to pay the license fee just for the privilege of owning a TV set.
But still, it’s got to be an easier way of operating than how it currently does so, right?
…Or are they just afraid that the shit they knowingly pump out and serve up on a plate for content won’t be enough to attract viewers and therefor with less eyeballs on their shows equating to less money to be made from advertising, that they would soon end up on the scrap heap with every other failed private TV company?
Humourless fascists.
This debate sparked a thought.
Comedians always tend to aim at whoever is in power. There is no fun in punching down.
After over a decade of conservatives in power, isn’t it expected for comedians to take the mick out of them? I mean, they are the ones consistently in power aren’t they?
