48-hour work week could be ‘reviewed’ as Truss urged to ‘come clean’ on plans

  1. she can review what the hell she likes, I doubt many companies are going to have the balls to implement her no weekend longer hours lower pay policies without half the staff walking out. nobody has actually voted for any of this shit.

  2. No thanks 36 hours a week in my type of job is more that enough of an energy drain mentally and physically, if anything I`m in desperate need of the opposite, more interested in the idea of a 4 day working week, much better idea and more fresh, more productive workforce will flourish. More work hours means less quality work being done, unless, that`s the idea all along…………………….

  3. Is this actually for real? They’re gonna piss about chatting shit like this when surely everyone is aware that money is made up and it only has an agreed value, so we could, as a world, all just make enough money for everyone and keep the agreed values between currencies and for necessary items constant. People can’t carry on in this work cult headed by those who don’t know hard work and with it just getting worse and worse like it’s a game of chicken in how much those with power can insult people’s intelligence and get away with it. They get some deranged low intellect gawping unwantable like this thing to say these things and people are just swallowing it so much they’ll have it as their leader? Nah.

  4. Truss will last less than 6 months. There’ll be another leadership vote then, Boris J back on the ballot paper.

  5. The majority of the workforce will go tell her to fuck herself if she implements longer working hours. She doesn’t know what’s coming.

  6. The TUC should be agitating and laying the groundwork for a General Strike, rather than announcing a campaign for £15 per hour by 2030(!). I know it takes time to organise, but seriously, how much more are we supposed to take?

  7. I refuse to give up this right, my union will immediately strike if this happens. I am not going back to the dark ages.

  8. 100 hour work week for 5 year olds and reopen workhouses for the poor.

Oh and homeless people are turned into glue so that cladding can be readded.

  9. Liz Truss is going to be a disaster and the Tories know it. I think they’re so deluded that they’ll use this as an opportunity to try to bring back Johnson to live out his full scale “Churchill returns” re enactment.

    They’re all out of ideas.

  10. There’s her downfall right there. Most countries are looking at a 4 day week & she wants to increase it instead

  11. The year is 2024. Your work week is 60 hours. It’s making you ill, but you have no entitled holiday or sick days to take, and even if you could get the day off you couldn’t afford a doctor and the NHS is all but non-existant. Besides, you need every penny your job gives you as there is no such thing as the minimum wage and you would like to turn on the heating today for an hour. The UK’s productivity is mysteriously low and the Tories, basically the only legal UK party to vote for is considering rolling back child labour laws to combat it.

You think to yourself how lucky you are not to have Labour in charge and that any negatives to today’s life are all either the EUs fault or trans peoples fault somehow.

  12. I’m honestly lost on how/why this is a thing…now where am I being dense?

People want to work for 48 hours a week (they can work more but you can’t make them)….you want them to work for 60 and they refuse…why not just hire another part time member of staff for those 12? Given that chances are it’s more than one person you want to work extra hours, hire someone on full time to pick up the ‘slack’ of 12xn hours?

They’d still be paying the same hourly rate out in total but people would have the hours they want and we’d have higher employment

  13. Fuck this woman. “Everyone should be willing to work 48 hrs a week, the country is lazy! This of course exempts me though, I will stick to my 4 hrs a week”

  14. She has been agreeing to ‘review’ and ‘look at’ absolutely everything she hears on her campaign trail. There’s no actual substance or policy behind most of it.

  15. I don’t think there is a single person besides her 1% mates that she hasn’t pissed off in some way or another. It’s like she wants to be hated.

If any of you are unfortunate enough to have a Tory MP then get writing this week as soon as she is announced, she needs to be gone as soon as possible and Tory in fighting makes that happen

  16. Removing rights at the same time as a massive overseas recruitment drive for NHS and Care Home workers is a perfect storm of abusive working practices foisted onto people who can’t change jobs like those pesky EU workers could (as their work permits will be employer specific).

The Tories, never missing an opportunity to be absolute barstards.

  17. 48 hour week! I started work at 15 years in the early 60’s in 48 hours we did over time to 54 hours!
The UNIONS stopped that to 44 then 42 stayed at 40 for years! They also got full pay for holidays! Sick pay (slowly!) & Oddly increased working safety!
    Wonder what happend to unions?

BUT no one can do good constructive work on 48 hours today, then the old boys just adjusted the pace to suit!

  18. She’s too dumb to realise that most of the Tory voter base are normal people with jobs who probably don’t want to work extra hours for no financial gain (and a loss of personal/family time).

Aside from the fact this isn’t even something the Tories talked about in their original manifesto, this seems like a sure-fire way to lose a chunk of your core voter base.

  19. I’m desperately hoping this is just posturing to appeal to the kind of people who are Tory members. I can’t see it actually working, especially considering the difficulties in recruiting for sectors like hospitality and care – nothing will cause a mass walkout like taking away any benefits to the jobs. I think the guff about the motorway speed limits is the same. It feels very much like asking your mum for something and being turned down without actually being turned down.

  20. It just goes to show how out of touch the government are. Most low income workers are doing a 48 hour week already, whether in the form of overtime, second jobs or works that goes unpaid.

All this does is legalise a system that is already happening to look good on paper (to other out of touch tories) and stop people getting overtime when it becomes “contracted hours”.

  21. Who actually WANTS to work more hours? We should be moving TOWARDS a society that values spending time with family, not AWAY from it.

I hear so many people on a daily basis saying things like they wish they could have more time to do x, y and z. Most of the time, they are saying they wish they had more time for their children. Fucking making people work more hours is disgusting, the hours many people work, especially in offices, is more than what is needed anyway.

We should be working towards a 4 day week, not fucking compressed either. An actual 4 day week where you do your standard eight hours. What do these degenerates need to be shown to see that it makes people more productive and happier? It baffles me how these people have this view in this day and age.
