75% of Dáil landlords haven’t properly declared properties

  1. For anyone who only reads headlines:

*Fifteen of the current Dáil’s 20 landlords have failed to provide the full addresses of their properties as required by Oireachtas guidelines.*

So for example, instead of writing the full address, they had Apartment, Sandyford, Dublin 18 or Apartment, Dublin etc.

  2. It sounds like they were suddenly motivated to omit exact addresses, despite the fact they have declared that they have them. Why would that be?

  3. Is it a problem with the system then. If TD are a sample, can you imagine what it’s like for the general populace of landlords. Looks really bad on the RTB.

  4. To be fair, what benefit is there in having the full address? If anything is amiss with tax etc. the revenue service will know the exact details.

  5. So what you’re telling me is the ‘most tds aren’t in fact landlords’ line is in fact, untrue?

    Edit: apparently /s isn’t obvious.

  6. Look even Civil Servants have to fill out similar. They are obliged to declare with SIPO the exact location, but that can be redacted when published under FOI etc under public safety grounds etc.

You wouldn’t like to be a tenant and wake up to Éirigí and the Shinners (except in Meath) at your door now would you.

  7. Two questions as someone not too familiar with how any of this works:

    1) Does everyone have to register their properties with RTB (or whatever agency Troy and Donnelly forgot to register to) or is it a thing TDs are obliged to do for one reason or another?

    2) if the answer to the above is yes everyone does have to, what consequences would a regular Joe Soap face if they had made the same omissions as Troy and Donnelly? And have Troy or Donnelly faced these same consequences?

  8. Non story in my eyes, headline makes it seem.shady but the bones of it is that they’re putting down Interests and addresses but no house numbers. What should be the article is the likes of Troy and Donnelly and their tax and revenue situation for the rentals they didn’t declare
