Bought myself one of these snug sheepskin pelts to stay warm this winter. Anyone else considering ye olde Irish ways to save on energy bills?

  1. Currently in bed with a huge lab, a terrier/boxer cross and sheepdog… definitely going old school.

  2. Looks really comfy! I lover winter. What I normally do at bedtime is put two duvets on the bed and an extra pillow. The extra pillow doesn’t necessarily make me warmer but it doesake me feel more snug.

If it’s freezing out I’ll throw on the dressing gown, wear a pair of thick socks and a pair of tracksuit bottoms. Most people can’t seem to get comfy in bed with clothing on, but I can.

  3. I bought an Aran woollen blanket last winter and it was an absolute game changer for keeping warm in the evenings. It was €50 which is pricey, but I was able to cut back on how long I had the heating on for. Will definitely buy another.

  4. It’s looking pretty dire. Might have to cut open one of the neighbours cows and sleep in it for warmth – Revenant style.

  5. What I typically do is kill a large animal, or better still, find one that has died recently. I cut a slit in the belly about 2 feet wide and pull out the guts. Then I just crawl in and stay there for the night, snug as a bug in a rug.

  6. I have a Clint Eastwood style poncho that my fiancé knitted for me. I basically lived in it last year. I’ve been looking forward to it getting cold again since May so I can wear it again.

  7. I got a Mexican blanket last year as a gift. During winter months I fold it over and climb into it wuthbthge duvet on top. Unbelievably comfortable and warm!

  8. Have a fleece electric blanket for on top of the sofa, that and a knock off oodie will keep me cosy. For the bed I have the brushed cotton bedding from homestore and more, the duvet with the weighted blanket on top does the trick. Slipper boots from penneys for making the tea or coffee, one cup boiling at a time then into the thermal cup to make it stay warmer longer.

  9. A quilt under my bed sheets, an electric blanket on top of the quilt under the bed sheets, a quilt on top of the bed sheets and a blanket on the top of the quilt

  10. A lovely little home remedy idea from my sister… Pour some *uncooked* rice in a pillowcase and microwave it for a minute or two. Use it like a hot water bottle to warm the sheets before crawling into bed.

  11. I’m pretty sure in viking Dublin they wore the skin of the jarls who’s greed starved the people I can get behind bringing back those times

  12. I got a snuggie(knock-off, not the expensive brand) for Christmas last year and it’s fantastic. I can WFH without the heat on for ages.
