Is Eurovision really that popular in Iceland?

  1. This is the map of the TV share the final of Eurovision 2022. It seems like literally all channels in Iceland were broadcasting Eurovision

  2. jebb, also helps we dont have that many tv channels admittedly but Eurovision is like a national holiday here

  3. Yup! I got invited to a Eurovision party during Covid (low levels here so no restrictions, but zero tourists about), had things to do so was a little late. The drive into & through town was SPOOKY! Like something out of 28 days later with literally no-one around and hardly a car on the roads 😀

  4. Yeah, moving abroad only to find out that they don’t do an all day Eurovision party with themes, food and alcohol was a real culture clash and a huge downer for me.

  5. It also helped that this year Iceland qualified for the final again, not everyone was expecting that. If i remember correctly, the share in eg. 2018 was way lower.

  6. A perfectly good excuse to party and get everyone together. That said, often the TV is on silent 😉

  7. Yes it’s that popular.
However we recognize how ridiculous it is and that is 80% of the charm. If it were a regular song contest with normal people it would not be so popular.
