Back to discredited trickle down economics
> What I can say is that if I’m elected as prime minister, within one week I will make sure there is an announcement on how we are going to deal with the issue of energy bills, and of long-term supply, to put this country on the right footing for winter
Tory elections are so fucking weird. Their candidates only announce their policies *after* they win…
It’s like a tacit admission that policy doesn’t matter, just ‘pragmatism’ and personality.
That she has absolutely no clue as to how this will go down tells you all you need to know. She is so out of her depth it’s scary.
Tax cutting that disproportionately benefits high earners *is* redistribution, just in the other direction.
Get this criminal into prison and out of Downing Street
Can’t wait for our new dipshit, fascist, Maggie-wannabe PM to take office.
Time to batten down the hatches, folks. Next few months are gonna be *rough*.
This idiot can’t even run a bloody bath , why is she even contending to become leader of the Tory party.
Can we not just have May back? She seems a bloody saint In comparison
Ok so now the “Bring Back Boris aka the worst prime minister in the country’s history” campaign makes sense;
She hasn’t got a fucking clue.
It’s back to that sinking feeling from the beginning of the pandemic that we’re literally on our own because the Tories are living in fantasy world where making the UK a smaller, shittier version of America is the only goal.
Best of luck, ladies and gents – we’re gonna fucking need it.
As I keep saying…. The country truly deserves to suffer under the tories.im glad they keep getting voted in. the public will never learn.
I just don’t get how you go from hard left Lib Dem to a cheap second-rate Thatcher knock off as Liz has done. Blows my mind.
I have decided the Tories are the most cunning misogynists in existence. They keep finding the worst women to make leader to perpetuate the stereotype women can’t lead. It’s evil genius.
What is the cutoff for high earners in this context? Anyone in the 40% tax bracket?
> But to look at everything through the lens of redistribution, I believe, is wrong. Because what I’m about is growing the economy. And growing the economy benefits everybody.
So when the economy grows, real wages stay stagnant or fall, but elites take home sky high profits that’s benefitting everyone?
Sounds like bullshit
Still trying to suggest the trickle down economic works…..
Honestly they would rather watch the uk burn than lose power. If they loses the next election they will say that it was rigged and unfair just to cling on to power. We need change now more than ever or the UK will be heading down a path noone will like.
going on to add, “that’s the whole point, I’m not doing this for poor people, gross”
You want to help high earners? Do stuff like fix broken tax rules on the personal allowance deduction or child benefit. Shits that’s actually broken.
She really is a fucking vile worthless piece of sputum, isn’t she?
At this rate Ian Watkins would be a better idea to run the place
It also say’s in the Guardian article, she wants less holiday entitlement, it’s the American model. And for many USA is a shithole country.
Conservatism is a cancer on our communities.
Thick as Mince. Just like her predecessor.
Just as uncaring, just as corrupt
Hmmm… So, the rich get richer but that makes the economy grow and then the poor people benefit from that improved economy because some of that fortune kind of goes down to them, like the proceeds of this bigger economy where the rich get richer, trickles down to the poor…
I have never heard of this and am amazed no one has ever considered or tried to run their own economy in this way before.
I for one cannot wait to hear what other fresh and innovative ideas Liz Truss might bring to our country. Surely we will all benefit from having an intellectual giant such as her as our leader.
I was watching the interview this morning, I found myself groaning a lot in general. I still can’t believe in this day and age, people are still voting for the Conservative Party. There is no ownership or solution to the UK’s problem. Genuinely concerned for the future I may just leave in isolation away from democracy haha, I laugh because I don’t want to cry.
why do we put up with this? they are cartoon vilans
>her planned reversal of a recent rise in national insurance would benefit top earners by around £1,800 a year, and the lowest earner **by about £7**
Fucking hell, even Boris’ £10 kettle “advice” would offer more support to those who are facing poverty this winter.
Once again, all the people who voted for Boris in 2019 are surprised that the tories don’t care about them.
My god she’s so thick. There is not one reputable economist who believes that trickle down worked, all evidence it’s that it has the opposite effect.
That’s this week. She’s still chasing Tory party member votes.
Isn’t this just pushing the trickle down argument? The same trickle down approach that has been proven to not to raise the incomes of ‘ordinary’ working people.
Truss’s ideology will just allow the already well-off to accumulate even more. The spectacularly wealthy will off-shore even more money into tax exempt investments.
In fairness… We were all really pissed at the national insurance increase, primarily, because working people pay it and pensioners (aka, Tory voters) don’t. Personally, I think it’s a good thing to reverse it, but I’d take a hard look at taxing passive income, and non-productive assets, like second homes or development sites.
They have become so cosseted, so protected and so insulated from people, they have forgotten what happens when masses rise up.
Stupid cunts will get a reminder I am sure..
The poor, and disabled, as usual, get absolutely fucked. Gods, I wish my parents never had me.
This is just going to make people not pay there tax or find ways of making money without bothering about tax. Why the fuck should people be footing the bill over and over again for those who can afford it a thousand times over, just to be brutally punished for it anyway?
Totally clueless and we still have another two years of these useless twats!.
This is why I’m sceptical that this is just a ‘cost of living crisis’ and feel it’s far more the start of the collapse of our socio-economic system. Please keep in mind that our socio-economic system has been in decline for decades and the gulf between those who have and those who don’t is now an almighty chasm.
What these politicians seem to fail to understand is that money is not a ‘thing’. Money is a unit of measurement of value. It’s a concept. You go to work and earn money simply because someone values your labour enough to pay you. You pay money for rent because you need somewhere to live, you value your home and so you pay rent. Rinse and repeat with food, energy, fuel, and whatever else you’re spending money on.
This means that the more money changes hands and flows, the more value it has. You can only use a finite amount of money, because you can only live in one home at a time, you can only do one job at a time, you can only eat so much food, you can only have so many clothes to wear, and so on.
So surely it makes sense that everyone needs to have a certain amount of money coming in so that they can live comfortably, irrespective of what they’re going in life. You want kids to wear nice clothes, to have access to food at school, have toys, and everything they need to be comfortable. You don’t want old people struggling to survive, or worse dying because they don’t have money to eat or put the heating on. This is what’s known as social security.
Social security is not a bad thing, it goes hand in hand with technology, and the whole point of technology is that we work less. Otherwise why bother developing technology?
But the Tories either can’t or won’t see this. They’re still trying to rework Adam Smith’s weird 18th century economic theory in the 21st century believing that there’s this ‘invisible hand’ of the market and the wealthy are the people providing for everyone else. But see Adam Smith wrote his books when there was slavery, indentured servitude, poverty, destitution, and his premise is that, if you read Chapter 8 of his seminal work ‘The Wealth of Nations’ is that there is no other option but to destroy the multitude of worker’s children to prevent overpopulation.
People really need to be asking themselves how they’re going to live. The current economic thinking going on, especially from the Tories, isn’t sustainable. It’s not even viable. Technology is going to continue to develop which means fewer jobs in the future, so fewer and fewer opportunities to support oneself within the current socio-economic paradigm.
The Tories will continue with their failed ideologies, their failed beliefs, expecting more, and you can be sure they will never reach a point where they say enough is enough. Think about it.
About time this country had a revolution.
Someone aught to remind her how quickly guillotines can be made and out to use. I’m led to believe that the French public often make actual guillotines and leave them outside government buildings to remind them what happens when the public get pushed too far.
its not fair but unfortunately the stupid moronic british public don’t actually care because they are more obsessed with denying socialism than helping themselves, the country is doomed
When do we riot? I’m done being kicked to the curb by rich bastards who think they can take all my money.
I’ve had enough
At least she’s dumb enough to be honest about what they really stand for, unfortunately people would be none the wiser and still vote for them.
We. Only. Have. Ourselves. To. Blame.
At what point will Tory voters accept that the ‘cutting taxes to boost the economy’ line is a load of shite?
We’ve been cutting taxes for the rich for the best part of fifty years and the economy is going into meltdown.
The solution? Double down and do more of the same. It’s ridiculous. They’ve sold off the family sliver already and at this rate the poor will actually be paying the rich to ‘boost the economy’ or ‘bring investment’ – it’s a busted flush. The rich take money out of the productive economy and stick it in tax havens. An amoeba with learning difficulties could have worked that out by now.
Is this not just reversing the ni increase everyone here was up in arms about when it was first announced?
I sense her lift doesn’t go all the way to the top, does it?
Surprise, surprise, another Conservative leader that will favour the rich.
American here with unsolicited advice you probly don’t need but, hey, I’m an American – DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE ECONOMICS OF THIS.
Call them out for what they are – fascists.
They’ll dismsiss you for either approach, but they’ve already dismissed basic economic facts, general morality, and overall reality to further their $$ from the rest of us like the fascist-adjacent pricks they are.
I now just say it didn’t work in the Kansas Experiment (bbc article [here](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41862975) ). GOP held gov & supermajority state leg – went full on pure conservative cutting taxes/services/regs and wound up being such a public disaster that even KS conservatives demanded taxes & spending be raised. Importantly, however, is rich folks did indeed get richer after all this.
I’m sure there’s a UK version of KS’ disaster.
