Electric Picnic today, a number of these piles scattered around, each lorry load not making a dent. Disgraceful.

A great reflection on the demographic most likely to vote green. All for the environment but too lazy to tidy up afterthemselves. Single use tents from lidl/aldi
Not sure if they still do it, but at Glastonbury they used to tell patrons that didn’t want to keep their tent to just leave it pitched where it was, so it wouldn’t get broken or trampled into the mud. Staff (or volunteers) would then collect all the usable ones and pass them on to charities that assist the homeless and refugees.
As long as everyone had their fun, right? That’s what’s important, right?
They should adopt a “Naked and Afraid” clause to issuance of camping tickets.
I’ve always brought back my tent from EP. I genuinely don’t understand, why waste so much money for such little effort to pack it away?
Once upon a time, EP did a thing where tents left behind were dismantled by the scouts and recycled.
They tried it a few times, but people wouldn’t leave the tent bags in them as required and very often the tents and sleeping bags were plainly unsanitary, ie full of literal piss or shite, or mostly broken.
However, every year forever after you would hear that repeated around the campsite – “Leave it behind, shur the scouts recycle it all”. They don’t.
Charity groups are sometimes allowed to pick through the site for stuff that’s obviously in mint condition, but that barely scratches the surface of the amount of stuff left around. Very obviously, your 25 euro single skin Dunnes tent full of used johnnies and fag burns is not going to be recycled for the homeless.
I’m convinced the tent recycling thing was the biggest mistake EP ever made, because it meant people would always have an excuse to leave it like a tip after that, and it only got worse once the Oxegen set migrated over.
Where is it off to the incinerator in Dublin?
You should have to pay a deposit or something to bring a tent in. Collect it on your way out to show you didn’t just leave it there.
This seems to be a fundamental problem with multi day festivals.
People who want to go are gonna buy the cheapest nastiest tents they can find. Come the end of the festival when they’re probably knackered or know that the tents fecked because it was so cheap, then it’s no wonder they leave it behind.
That’s a hell of a lot of plastic that is going to be dumped/burned because the stuff cheap tents are made from can’t really be recycled. Most of these festivals like to play up their eco credentials, but their very existence creates masses of plastic waste.
Festival organisers need to come up with a way to fix this problem Maybe some sort of financial incentive to clean up after yourself or maybe go to the extreme and just not allow environmentally unfriendly tents on to the site?
I used the same tent for 5 years until some meat head jumped on top of it while I was asleep!! At Otherside there’s was a few people gathering up all the unbroken tents, pegs, poles and sleeping equipment for the homeless. People loose all respect when it’s someone else’s job to clean up after them.
It’s just down to sheer laziness
People giving out about tons of rubbish that they can see left behind, dont think anything of the thousands of tons of co2 released by everyone travelling to the event that they can’t see
The solution is for people attending to give a sh!t.
A lot of tents were broken, got flooded in or became unusable
Why would anyone bring those home with them?
By the time I was leaving on Monday there were already tents flying through the air
Seems that there are a large number of the younger crowd who do not give a single fuck.
Edit:
Shit. Apparently I am a Boomer
Anybody remember mantua?
That was nice ….
All that eco friendly bollox they talk about is nonsense. Went there once, what a fuckin shit show.
Attendees don’t care
Promotors don’t care
Public doesn’t care
Nothing will change
Imagine all the neat stuff you’d find cleaning up that campsite 🤔
A recycling fee should be added onto the ticket prices.
Then the money should actually be used to it’s fullest.
The more I see this year on year, the less I support camping festivals in Ireland. Irish people are dirty bastards.
Ah humanity how classy
I bet ya a good few of the people that left all that rubbish behind them are complaining about Global Warming fucking Hypocrites
How are you going to destroy your own house?
Same fucking group of saps that will do your ear in talking about climate change and micro plastics in water and chakras whilst scabbing a rollie off ya! Same beours who pump money into shipping makeup and clothes galore think they grow abit of armpit hair and do a run around the vintage shops are doing the world a solid hahah
