In London…

  1. So what? It’s a mark of respect on the death of someone who was revered in the country that building is in.

  2. To abstain would be more interesting, and incredibly disrespectful of a country that remains one of our closest economic and cultural partners despite some obviously horrendous history between us.

  3. Yeah, this is extremely expected and I agree with the show of respect.

What would you expect that the embassy would do? Hang a sheet out the window with *”Glad she’s gone! Up the RA!”* Some of you lot need to get your heads screwed on.

  4. In fairness an Irish owened business that’s made it money off the brits should pay respect. If the don’t respect those who pay their bills and service their company they shouldn’t be there. How the Holy fuck you could have an issue with the embassy flying it’s flag half mast…

  5. What’s the issue? The flag is at half mast? You know the queen of England just died and London is the capital of England? It’s called being respectful, even fucking Putin has offered condolences imagine how it would look if we kept the flag at full mast just to basically say “haha fuck you your queen is dead lol up the ra”

You can be a republican and still have basic human decency you know

  6. Real life has consequences op. This is not reddit where you can criticise the outdated monarchy all you want. It would be bad form not to show respect on a political level. Ireland and the UK are massive trade partners. You have to know how how to appease others in politics even if you’re not fond of who you’re lowering the flag for.

  7. The amount of people here with family working and living in the UK and vice versa, I think it fitting that the flag is half mast. The two countries have more in common culturally than difference.

  8. Couldn’t see the flag from my seat on the bus but there’s flowers being left outside the British Embassy in Dublin
