Who can help identify this little fella

  1. Found this at my entrance. Location Aargau. That dude crawled under my terrace and is sitting somewhere in the house facade isolation. He had a split tongue and was doing hiss sounds.

  2. Pretty sure it’s a Ringelnatter, yellow spots on the back tell me. They are not poisonous to humans and live close to little streams. Saw one recently swallowing a trout.

  3. German: Ringelnatter
    French: Couleuvre
    English: Danger noodle

(Ps: it’s not dangerous – saying it just so you can keep it taco)

  4. Grass snake.

Don’t try to handle it, they’ll musk you and you’ll have to put your clothes in the bin. Shoo it out with a brush.

  5. It’s clearly a Natrix, and almost certainly N.helvetica. This specie was long considered to be a subspecie of N.natrix, until an indept study of their genetics separated them as two distinct species. The most distinctive sign to tell them apart is the much higher amount of black spots on the flanks of N.helvetica. Also, Natrix natrix is normally only present in Northeast Switzerland.

    Here is the study :

  6. I moved closer to nature and was always under assumption that there can not be snakes in Switzerland. I am very scared now. Can this crawl to first floor if its just couple of feets above ground? I keep my balcony doors open day and nights.
