I know people generally like these people, Michael Fry etc. but maybe you only see the good stuff and they’re hit rate of being funny is like 1%. These ads are painful and ads are where the best stuff is shown to get viewers watching.
“today we discuss the often controversial topic…bramble” What?
“I did see you there…I was acting”
What is this?
RTE are generally hit or miss with comedy. But then again You’re not going to get universally acclaimed comedy these days, particularly on a state broadcaster.
TBF I like all those comics. They have some good stuff on their social media accounts. I’ll give it a shot.
We’ve gone from the Hardy Bucks to this…
I can’t watch that stuff, it’s too cringe. Maybe just difference in tastes.
Awful, bring back The Savage Eye.
Why not wait and reserve judgement on the show itself?
Ooh look at them, aren’t they so wacky and zany.
The crazy thing is that most Irish people will think this is the funniest shit they ever saw
The guy holding the skull done a good Brian Cox piss take a while back.
Good safe, tame “Lol, so random” humour that doesn’t rock the boat with social commentary or criticism of the government and status quo.
Looks like the creative friends of the folks in the Rockshore ads have made a comedy sketch show after their well connected parents who work in RTE managed to get them a gig.
We’ve become such a twee nation.
Is that your man who bought toilet paper to have a big shit? Fuckin eejit!
Comedy is subjective and hard to make. Won’t be everyone’s tastes. I respect the balls it takes to make something all the same.
I don’t think it’ll be my cup of tea, but isn’t this what we’ve been asking for? RTE to stop giving all their money to Tubridy etc and give a platform to some new talent?
I don’t enjoy most of the stuff those involved put out, but they are generally popular.
Ah fuck off. All these people are funny and have just gotten the chance to showcase their comedy on TV.
Even if the ad is shite (which I don’t think it is), how can you say RTÉ should scrap comedy all together over it?
Is it not a good thing to give young, up-and-coming Irish comedians a few cameras and a bit of a budget and see how they get on?
It could be good, and why wouldn’t it be? They’re funny! It could be shit too, I don’t know yet. It’s not even out.
Whinging about RTÉ is popular and I complain about them all the time, but complaining about them giving popular, young, Irish comedians a chance is gobshittery I can’t get behind.
Are you sure you’re not just too old to find it funny OP? Humour evolves and moves forward like everything else does.
Oh but at the end she puts it *to* RTE! It’s edgy!!!
Judging a comedy sketch show off an ad is silly IMO. All this ad shows is the RTE ad team sucks.
Comedy is a tough medium to get right, but I’m glad RTE is supporting it.
Who are they related to in Montrose
Ah now, some of them are gas. Don’t be such a cynical Simon.
The comedians are genuinely funny on social, but does it translate well to TV?
The show could be genuinely good it’s just a shitty ad but shur look, no worries if not.
I actually think it might be good. I’ll reserve judgement until I watch it at least. Michael Fry, Seán Burke and Justine Stafford are actually pretty funny. I know that Michael Fry has some podcast on BBC which is gas.
If RTÉ wants sketches, the obvious thing to do is to look at Foil Arms and Hog, OneyNG, Sminky Animation, and other Irish YouTube channels/personalities.
And if we venture even slightly outside of sketch comedy, we see that we have one of the biggest names in video games streaming in the world: jacksepticeye. And RTÉ has done nothing to partner with him on anything!
Of course, RTÉ’s main problem is the RTÉ Player. There are so few marks that it needs to hit, and yet it still fails:
* Watch the GAA anywhere in the world
* Maintain the back catalogue: I just looked and A Scare At Bedtime was nowhere to be seen, nor Glenroe, and even the Fair City back catalogue only goes back a month. And where’s Reeling In The Years?
