Burning wood should be outlawed asap as main source of heating. Not only for reasons stated in the article, but also because of the local pollution in the form of very fine particulate.
Biomass…probably the biggest greenwashing scam in years.

Yeah baby yeah! If only the title said western Europe.
I know this is about Eastern Europe, but I’ve been living in the ardennes for a while now. I often find it baffling how many big trees are by the side of the road that are just cut & split into firewood. Like you could get at least some planks out of those trees and use the rest as well as the sawdust to make pellets, paper, osb or even wood-fibre insulation. But that requires people to make conscious decisions and change things. It’s much easier to just keep doing what you’ve been doing for 40 years I guess.
I also think (part) of the problem lies in the way we (as a country/society) deal and have dealt with these kind of problems. We should educate people and explain ‘offenders’ through decent education how and why this is a bad thing.
Instead we just make law with either limited information through the *MSM* and/or more extensive information on lawmaker’s websites. The people heating strictly on firewood are not the type to go to the European Union’s website, read the article and be like: “huh, seems like we should adapt.” Instead they read HLN style media that says stuff like: “Government banning use of firewood for heating. Are you going to spend the winter in a cold house? Can’t we even make it cosy anymore?”
ik denk dat de energiesector wel genoeg subsidies heeft gekregen …
de staat spendeerd miljarden in alles, om dan nu zelf ook, samen met de bevolking, gepakt te worden door giga facturen.
geldwolven zijn het.
Happy this finally gets some attention. One of our wonderful “green” solutions … It should be banned asap. I guess it is better then people burning actual fresh wood.
Biomass from wood is just an anti-ecological scam. They’ll try to justify it by saying that they only cut down “invasive species” but at the end of the day you are leaving the planet with less trees than there were before.
If they find a way to produce a lot of energy from grass or algae, I’m all for it. But a tree can take decades to grow and is not a long-term energy solution.
>Ook de sector laat haar stem horen. Die vraagt zich af hoe Europa zijn ambitieuze doelstellingen voor hernieuwbare energie denkt te zullen halen.
Ik ben maar een dwaas die van niet veel afweet, maar 120 jaar oude bomen vellen hernieuwbaar noemen is toch wel een beetje overdreven..

[Relevant opinion piece](https://www.theguardian.com/world/commentisfree/2022/sep/05/burning-forests-energy-renewable-eu-wood-climate) by the likes of Greta Thunberg. These cynical ploys to continue business as usual, but with a useless green veneer of respectability are what we can expect for a lot of the initiatives in the future.
