The Polish government has only 39TWH of gas stored. This is less than a month of consumption. Even if they wanted to store more, it would be impossible since the storage sites are at 99.7%. Ok, Poland (differently than Germany) has a terminal to impor LNG and that will help immenselly.

Still, it is not a bad idea to have a plan B. What are your ideas? (Besides “moving to greece for winter”). Here are some, like using those emergency thermal blankets.

  1. There’s plenty of gas in the world, and as time passes there will increasingly be routes that bring it to Poland, that LNG terminal you mentioned is an example of supply lines already shifting and this change gain momentum as time goes on. It’s the first change that’s challenging, and that’s largely done. As winter progresses supply will catch up with demand. That 1 months storage is a buffer for the supply, not the supply. It’s not going to be an amazing winter, for sure, let’s not kid ourselves, so you probably shouldn’t crank the heat up high and walk around your house in your underpants, but you’re also not going to freeze. Get a comfortable Woolley jumper and socks and you’ll be fine.

Edit: the bulk of Polands electricity still comes from coal, right? Which Poland has huge reserves of. So I guess if you’re worried you could get an electric heater for one room as a backup. no doubt electricity will be affected by this stuff too but likely not to the same extent as gas.

  3. There is a gas pipeline streight to Norway, where also Polish companies mines, there are connectors to other countries, there is a LNG terminal in Poland, there is a lot of gas demanding not essential industry like carbonated drinks and beer production to be suspended. Fertilizers production is crucial, but it can be also decreased for a while, that makes 60% decrease in the natural gas consumption, so there will be fuel for house heating rather for sure. If for a some very unlikely reason there will be no natural gas, then there will be electricity for sure, so we have a lot of energetic coal* and lignite for powerplants. Buy electric heaters if you feel an anxiety, they will be probably as useful as half a year toilet paper stock during early pandemics, but you will feel better.

*It is a different coal, not suitable for home stoves, shortages of which rusophiles are celebrating in the internet.

BTW. Take care about yours choresterol, it doesn’t look good, judging by yours posts.
