Sigh of relief as energy price cap forecasts drop by more than £2,000 in just a week

  1. There’s no point in paying attention to these articles

The January price cap isn’t set until the end of November, and April isn’t set until the end of February

There’s so much time for the markets to move still

  2. So the tactic of “omg it could be 7,000 per year! Oh no don’t worry it’ll only be 5,000” actually works in keeping people calm then?

Running a country like a kid who says to his parents he got expelled before saying actually don’t worry he only got suspended in an attempt to get off lighter.

  3. All well and good as long as the energy companies play ball and pass it on. Rather than trying to increase there already massive profit margins

  4. ..& there’s the fall, as expected; it’s all about anchoring.

Whether it’ll stick though – given how much its fluctuated in just the last month – is anyones guess.

  5. > The forecast for April’s cap is now £5,539 per year for the average household

I’m not sure “sigh of relief” describes most people’s reaction to hearing that their bills are projected to reach £460 a month.

  6. I knew they’d try this.

Forecast the worst scenario to make people more comfortable with something that’s still over the top expensive but less scary than before.

If this works on you, wake the fuck up.

  7. Loads of this is just taunting and threatening people with confidence tricks driving large wealth transfers and making people suffer. The energy companies are still making massive profits.
