Minimum wage to increase next January in boost for thousands of workers

  1. As it probably should every year.

It’s still below the €13 living wage figure (which itself is probably outdated). Inflation alone should have made this a pretty easy decision

  2. from the article; “The Government is also moving towards the introduction of a living wage replacing the minimum with aim of it being €13.70 per hour by 2026”.

that is not a living wage. that’s not even going to keep up inflation. it’s a net loss in wages. They are changing the words not the wage.

  3. I’m due a new contract in November/December with a pay raise.

Could they fuck me over by delaying it and claiming the new minimum wage is my pay increase?

    It’s a large retailer.

  4. Fuck this increase. I’m on 11.50 per hour.. I won’t be seeing an increase.

From everything I’ve seen of the budget so far, there is, yet again, zero in there for me.

  5. No normal bills etc. It’s mainly I’ve not much extra money for any savings etc which is quite important to try and have.

13 is still considered a pretty low wage so it shouldn’t be a surprise, it might seem high compared to minimum but it’s really not a huge amount more per week after taxes

  6. Way to drive inflation higher. Govt should be giving more tax credits to those on minimum wages instead, as this won’t drive the cost of goods/services up further, (bar massive demand) but ahh well 🤷‍♂️ you can expect your local shops to increase prices from january

  7. I’m not from Ireland, the 11.30 per hour is the gross wage or net? If it’s gross, what’s the actual net wage?

  8. i was 15 an hour for over a year. Wasn’t worth a shite. Got rode by the taxman for most of it. With overtime probably over 20 odd n hour. also not worth a shite if your doing more than like 5 hours OT.

  9. Strange policy given inflation is at 8%+ in the republic. Seems to be counter to traditional approach’s to reduce inflation.

Policy such as this, along with ECB inaction on interest rates (in comparison to the FED rate which will be 3.5% next week), makes me feel Europe is in for a tough couple of years.

I know the war plays a part, but inflation was rising long before February. I’ll be downvoted to oblivion, but this is dangerous and populist policy from our government.
