Liz Truss ‘to lift fracking ban within days of winning leadership contest’

  1. Delusional. More waste of time and money when we need to be as quick as possible with renewables and insulation.

If we had reverted back to the sensible planning rules for onshore wind projects before the Tories changed them we could have started planning onshore wind at the beginning of the Ukraine war and they would be coming on stream early next year.

Fracking on the other hand will do nothing for years then lock us into gas dependency, or just never get off the ground at all.

  2. When you think she has reached the bottom, she keeps digging

Hopefully 2 years at most and she will become an has been

  3. I’ve just had breakfast with my mate. He’s a business owner and I suspect is a Tory voter. Even he was shaking his head, and saying the whole thing was a shit show. He actually said he preferred Boris, and to be honest, I agreed with him. Yes, it’s so bad that even Boris Johnson is a better option. At least he’s the devil you know.

  4. Given the number of policy changes we are now being subjected to, most of which are designed to appease the geriatric tory voter base, surely morally (lol, tories, morals) they need to put it back to the electorate. 43% of the electorate voted for them based on a published manifesto and now they seem to be suggesting whatever they want. In any case they are, after all, a government that a minority of the electorate voted for, and it’s simply a result of our pseudodemocratic voting system that they have such massive majority and can steamroller what they want through.

  5. It’s almost as if these people don’t realise that once they’ve destroyed the planet, they can’t make any more money. Selfish cunts

  6. right now its literally a list of who’s paying the bribes, sorry ‘donations’ at the moment with every policy decision of the whoever the new PM is.

  7. After driving everyone into poverty and making people wish the ground would just open up and swallow them, the tories are now enacting a plan that might make that a reality!

  8. The Tories have been so awful that they’ve actually exhausted all of their awful policies, so now dim Liz is just like “Maybe we need earthquakes in this country.”

  9. The quickest and cheapest way out of the energy crisis is onshore wind and solar Liz! We don’t need to wreck the environment to pander to Tory NIMBYs ffs

  10. She can lift the ban all she likes, there’s not an administration anywhere where fracking could be possible that will either a) grant permission or b) not cost her Tory MPs/councillors.

This is another nothing. These people have nothing to offer.

  11. She is elected under the 2019 Tory manifesto which says

“We placed a moratorium on fracking in England with immediate effect. Having listened to local communities, we have ruled out changes to the planning system. We will not support fracking unless the science shows categorically that it can be done safely.”

So unless the science *categorically* shows it is safe she has no mandate to do this. It is a textbook definition of not *the will of the people*

  12. Why are the banging on about fracking?

Last timeI read up about it and watched. Few documentaries I can only see downsides.

I’m sure I read that the bosses of the energy companies who would frack for the gas said it won’t lead to cheaper fuel.

Plus if the Wells fuck up it can destroy the water table (google Flint Michigan for how bad it can go).

Also if they frack under or near your house wave your house prices goodbye because no fuckers going to want to buy it.

Watch Gasland and Gasland Part 2 to see how fucked up fracking is.

    Am I missing something here?

  13. I recently heard a pensioner say that they didn’t want Sunak as PM because of his colour. However, they also said he would be preferable to Liz Truss.

So, it looks like Casual racism can be overcome by a dislike of Liz Truss!

  14. She’s a stupid wee daft cow who will only line the pockets of her pals, not a clue how to run a bath never mind a country.

  15. She is so dumb someone probably told her to do it without even bribing her first. At least Bozo always knew to get something out of his dodgy dealings

  16. You know she’ll get absolutely obliterated and Johnson will re-run on an agenda of “See, I told you”

  17. This sub seems to have become devoid of any interesting discussion on policy – every post is now just reams of ‘heh Tories bad’ circlejerk comments.

  18. I lived in Lancashire when they were fracking a out 10 years ago. The earthquakes were big enough to knock things off a table.

Bloody stupid idea to allow it. The US has far larger space between fracking sites and houses.

  19. And you can guess no fracking will take place near Tory voters homes, at least not to a scale large enough to affect their votes. It’s a classic case of political hypocrisy.

  20. Speaking as an energy expert in the industry know a few things:

    1) Opposition to Fracking are generally hyperbolic (no dangerous earthquakes and no poisoning the water table).

    2) Once economies of scale kick in natural gas production is economic at around $12/MWh (prices are currently in the hundreds of $/MWh at NBP and TTF).

    3) Fracking will not alleviate the current energy crisis and developers will be hesitant if they believe Labour will shut them down after the next election.
