Getir was bound to failure. It was mainly used for thr £1 shopping spree one could do. It got its name out there, very fast, now it seems everyone’s forgotten about it. And most people stopped using the app.
Never heard of any of them. There is a market for a UK version of Instacart but it’s filled by the supermarkets being on Deliveroo.
Not surprised.
The road to profitability has probably increased dramatically with the cost of living crisis and recession incoming.
>Another Reading-based rider, Steve Geary, 43, left his job at Getir before the Turkish firm closed both its dark stores in the town this year. He took the part-time moped delivery job, which paid £10 an hour, to top up the earnings from his other job. “I was working 10am to 6pm in [a supermarket] and then going to Getir till midnight. I was doing it to make ends meet. I’m an impoverished worker, living in a room in a shared house.”
fuck this economy man. Imagine working from 10 to 6 and then again till midnight just to live in a shared house at the age of 43. Obviously his individual circumstances and all that but I’ve heard similar stories everywhere.
I never really understood why they even tried with Amazon, Deliveroo and Uber in this space taking groceries from well known brands even if Post-Pandemic Britain was roses and unicorns they never really stood a chance.
