Six years ago we were in a bank’s mortgage ad – now we’re couch surfing

  1. wait so the ad WASN’T based on a true story and they were just jobbing actors?

Before you know it we’ll be hearing that that lad didn’t go around the country asking people if he could get married and Kate didn’t really slip her number into the pocket of “the guy from the bar”

  2. I have been saying years banking advertising is full on trolling on anyone who needs not only a house wants grow a business,
Forget the loan that would alleviate the burden of debts have another credit card banking systems operate. Late fees should be outlawed. The poor pay the most throught the banking system.

I hate banks they are soulless computers looking for cashless operations.

Money transfers in crypto currency are lightning quick without the greedy middle man bankers. Besides the greedy trading outfits.

  3. I wonder why the article never mentioned or asked how much they got paid for the gig?
Would be interesting to know, and if it was worth it.

  4. The real story is that the lender they were promoting,(KBC) along with Ulster Bank have pulled out of the Irish market entirely.

The fact that two random actors in an ad on TV from 6yrs ago cant afford to live together hardly warrants a 1200 word article.

  5. I absolutely loathe those banking ads. Gormless 30something looking hipsters grinning like complete gobshites are getting reamed up the arse by some suited snake in the bank with a 30 year mortgage. Or some wrinkly faced auld one gleefully hobbling around after paying her last mortgage payment, before the effects of breaking her hole all those years to pay it off finally kills her. And finally some hollow meaningless slogan shown at the end to lull you into some soothing lie about not been robbed of every single bit of money and joy you’ll have in your life.

  6. Is it me or are most of these people a victim of there own decisions.

She decides to stop working and do a degree and he works in what’s considered a low paying profession unless you work for yourself.

I could have bought a house in walkinstown 6 year ago for 250k which would be a morgage of about €800. They decided to rent as it was cheap off a family friend instead of getting on the ladder.

    Ask me arse

  7. A one time acting gig that came about from his ‘socials’. I’d say the journalist found their story on the same set of ‘socials.
While I sympathise with their situation, they aren’t the same as other people giving out and unable to afford anything with two full time wages.
Mental health is cited as the reason emergency accommodation is not for them, as well as the reason one of them left their part time job. Once it’s mentioned it can’t be questioned, right?
I dunno, I know a few people in equally bad situations and a lot of it comes from making poor decisions (I’m looking at you, 2 week trip to Vegas). Adulting seems like a lost skill for certain age groups.
