My wife is a nurse here in Finland. She is Finnish and we moved here from the USA a few years ago. I haven’t had the best of times living abroad but I deal with it because my wife loves being here. However as she is a nurse here this whole mess of nurse pay and working conditions has slowly soured her mode. This new “Nurse Slavery Act” seems to be what I needed to convince here it’s about time we head back. I do like it here but I miss my home. I would live here happily but I can’t be happy in a place where my wife becomes a slave to her work. None of the nurses she works with are happy and I can’t see this ending well. I feel bad for the ones that don’t have the option to escape. I thought the USA was a backwards land with foolish things and Finland as a place with such care for its citizens. I now see they will sacrifice a small group of nurses for a larger group to save euros. How can this attract more nurses? My sister in law dropped out of her nursing program because she’s now convinced that it’s a horrible career path. How is any of this helping the future of Finland?
